Ring of Earth v. Overwhelmed correction (was Re: [L5R-CCG] Rules Question (Marty))

Comments Below:

Hi Marty,

There's one problem with the following section of your rules digest from 18 November:

Good spot there. That's completely my bad. I misread the card.

Ring of Earth specifically says, "other players cannot move that Personality into or out of battles." This does not prevent - you - from sending your units home in any way - you aren't "other players." Overwhelmed makes you choose to send your units home, and thus your Ring of Earth provides no help against it.

Isawa and Spells

I have a few questions regarding Isawa, from Dawn of the empire

A) When Isawa cast a spell that do not destroy itself as a cost from my hand, can the spell be recovered with The kami watch over me?

My gut instinct is to say, "yes," but I want to run it past Jeff to clarify a couple of points.

Well... Let me remember. During a duel, when focusing during a duel, I give a stat bonus to my personnality at the time I focus.

For example : Duel of Personal Honor : with a 3ph peep : Focus 1 : Let your Spirit Guide You => +6ph Focus 2 : Let your Spirit Guide You (again) => +9ph

Right ?

Ok, then, I'm browsing the wrath previews (I'm thinking of my futur decks, yes sir, I do !) and I find this one card :

Shattered Focus This card remains in play in your home. While this card is in play, Personalities must focus at least once per duel if able. Reaction: After focus cards are revealed in a duel, discard this card: Discard one card focused by each Personality in the duel.

Ok, ok... so after focused are revealed, I can discard card that were focused during the duel (I focus on the second ability, the first one is cool ^_^). Ok, then, what is it expect to do ? It does nothing from how I read it. Am I wrong ?

You are wrong. It ends the bonus that card provided.

No Hiding Place vs. cancelling

No Hiding Place vs. cancelling

I found an entry in the Timing section of the Accumulated Rulings that says one cannot play a Reaction in response to an action if one of its effects was modified.

There is no such ruling. It reads "Reactions played in response to an action must be played *before* the action produces any effects or has one of its effects modified." (Examples removed, emphasis added.)

That ruling says when you can play a Reaction, not that you can't.
