Your Rules for Monday, November 22, 2004
Mirumoto and Dotanuki
Say I attach a Dotanuki to Mirumoto, and he challenges an opponent with less Force than him. What happens:
a) Mirumoto's trait sets his Chi to the opponent's Chi, then Dotanuki gives him +2C on top.
b) Mirumoto gets the +2C from Dotanuki, but that means nothing since Mirumoto's trait sets his Chi equal to the opponent.
It would be "B." Dotanuki kicks in when you enter the duel opposing someone with less Force. Mirumoto sets his Chi before the first opportunity to Focus or Strike, which is distinctly a later trigger than entering the duel.
Rain of Death
<SLASH!>
If they do, can a Tactician who's not in the battle perform the action on Rain of Death?
Yes.
So... consider the following scenario: Three Lion Clan tacticians attacking province A. Another attacking province B, and yet another at province C. A resolves first, and I play Rain of Death. Can I use the tactician at B or C to pay the cost on Rain of Death and produce two ranged 3 attacks at province A?
Yes. That is what the card and the rules say.
Musume Mura and Keen Eye
Do I have to pick which card I want to get from my discard pile before I discard a card with Musume Mura?
Yes. Targeting comes well before you discard anything.
For example: If I have a province with a face-down card and I use Musume Mura and discard that card, can I refill the province with the same card that I discarded if it turns out to be a personality that I want??
You're out of luck. You had to make a valid choice of targets before you could even consider the play of Musume Mura to be a legal one - hence before you can resolve any of its effects to discard that card.
If I cancel my opponent's Smoke and Mirrors with a Keen Eye, does he get the opportunity to focus or strike again??
No. He still used his opportunity by playing Smoke and Mirrors. Keen Eye - negates the effects - of Smoke and Mirrors. That does not mean the play wasn't made. (Diamond Edition Rulebook, Page 72)
P.S. Can we get a "Focus on..." section in the FAQ for Keen Eye?? My local playgroup keeps asking me questions about how it interacts with different cards and I'm never certain when it works. Although there have been many questions/discussions about Keen Eye on this list, there are no entries about it in the Accumulated Rulings or in the FAQ.
That's because the Accumulated Rulings do not traditionally hold anything found in the Diamond Edition Rulebook. Almost every question related to Keen Eye is one that is answered by the printed rules (typically page 72), or has to do with a problem related to the card Keen Eye is played against, not Keen Eye itself.
Keen Eye itself is very simple - It Negates the effects of another Player's Reaction and you draw a card. You can only play it during a Challenge or Duel involving one of your Personalities.
Now, the FAQ - that's probably the best place to put such issues. That's Jeff's domain, and I would recommend sending a request directly to him.
That should cover everything that isn't related to Web of Lies for Monday. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of your Clear and Distinct subject line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
