Cavalry Reserves

The phrases "is an 'X' card" and "has the 'X' trait" have been treated as equivalent throughout the history of L5R. This is a Cavalry card by the title, so it works the same as if it had the Cavalry trait in boldface.

Can Weight of the Heavens remove the Cavalry trait from Cavalry Reserves, then?

Yes.

If so, would that turn the follower into "Reserves"?

No.

Also, what happens if Weight of the Heavens is used on one of the other cavalry-titled followers? Would it remove the printed trait and leave the title alone (leaving them cavalry cards), take both the trait and title, or something else?

Weight of the Heavens does not affect printed traits. It would work the same way: the target would not change title, but it would not be a Cavalry card.

I believe Cavalry Reserves is the first follower with Cavalry in the title that does not also have the printed Cavalry trait. I can understand wanting to save some space in the card text, but it looks like Cavalry Reserves would have had room for the trait. Was this just a matter of simplifying where the cavalry trait is used?

Some cards have traits that are redundant with their title, some don't. We've been trying to make them all the same for a few sets now, and gone with the "not redundant" approach because it gives us more room.

Utaku Tarako

Hello,

Question 1:

I have a Utaku Tarako and Shinjo Yushiro in play. I have a Region attached to my Province A (blank text). The enemy leader has a Kuon Exp. 3 in play, with no cards attached.

The enemy leader declares an attack against me. Assigns Kuon to Province B. I assign Tarako to defend this Province B. Yushiro defends Province A.

The enemy leader starts the battle in Province A. Now I want as my first battle action:

- To use the Tarako's battle action. Destroy Region attached to Province A.Target Kuon. Destroy Kuon.

Is it legal?

Yes. You have a unit in the current battle, so you have Presence. You are using an ability on a card in the current battle, so you have Relevance.

Question 2:

Same with Shinjo Reizo instead Shinjo Yushiro. The difference is that destroy the Region where Reizo is at lower Reizo's Force by 2.

Is it legal?

Yes. (Reizo's Force change does not matter in any way. It is not directly affected by Tarako's action.)

Hi all.

I have a big dude with Saemon . When i target saemon with refugees (for example) it can react to targetin and attach one follower. If it attach the follower to it, the refugees affects him or not?? I think no by this: Manual pag 75: "if a reaction changes an action's target so that the target no longer meets the action's targeting requirements the action does not affect that target"

But not sure if im right, anyone can help me?¿

You are right. Saemon becomes an illegal target for Refugees due to a Reaction. Any effects it has not yet had on him will not apply.

Rules Question

Hi everybody. Does anyone know what will happen if I egg Yogo and use the battle action with the Egg. Does the Egg be shuffled in the dynasty deck and if it returns it is still Yogo or is it discarded? We had this problem today in our play group and I'm not sure if it was discussed before. Thanks for some help.

The Accumulated Rulings know:

"Once played, it: - Is a Personality permanently [DW, netnews, 4/5/96], even if destroyed. [RD, 4/8/96] - Loses its status as a Unique action. [JA, email, 18 November 2003]

If sent back to your Dynasty Deck, it actually goes in, despite being a Fate card. [DW, 14 November 1997] When it appears in a Province, it follows normal requirements and restrictions." (Accumulated Rulings, "The Egg of P'an Ku")

It becomes a Personality when you play it, and will behave just like a Personality, including being reshuffled into your Dynasty Deck.

On: Yogo
Promo legality

Will those promos which have come out since Wrath became legal (Keeper of Fire, Book of Fire, Excellent Student, Sword of Spirit, etc) become legal when Dawn becomes legal (Dec 1st)? Or do they have to wait until whenever Web becomes legal?

They wait for Web to become legal on January 7th. Dawn is a premium set, with its own special legality date.

Rules question.

If I straighten Shrine to Ebisu with Ebb and Flow, and then bow it and shuffle it back into my deck to produce 5 gold, what happens?

Jeff answered this one in his "rule for 1 March 2004" email as follows:

Rules Question

Quick rules questions

Shrine to Ebisu

'Bow Shrine to Ebisu and shuffle it back into your Dynasty deck to produce 5 gold.'

Ebb & Flow

Open: Bow this shugenja to straighten a bowed holding. Destroy that Holding the next time this turn it becomes bowed.'

So if I bow the shrine for 3g, straighten it with Ebb and Flow and bow for 5g Which effect goes first?

A) I get the 5 gold and reshuffle the shrine which can no longer be destroyed since it has left the game or

B) I get the 5 gold, the shrine is destroyed and cannot be reshuffled? Or

C) I bow the shrine to get 5g, destroy it and put it in my discard and then remove it from the discard reshuffling it into my deck (the difference between A & C being if all discards go out of the game due to say an Onisu effect it would be gone)?

C.

That should cover everything from Wednesday that doesn't require me to answer questions based on Web of Lies. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of your Clear and Distinct subject line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
