Taking Tactical Actions
Martin Lund recently ruled that Tacticians need not be in the current battle to take Tactical Actions, as long you have both Presence and Relevance when performing said actions.
Actually, you don't even need to meet those rules if you aren't taking a Battle or Open ACtion. Akodo Yobi's Tactical Reaction is tight like that.
May Tacticians perform Tactical Actions while bowed if the action does not appear on them, specify that they must be unbowed, or require bowing as a cost? No current Diamond rules suggest otherwise.
Well, they can't perform Tactical Actions that make them issue Challenges and a Hypothetical Shugenja Tactician can't cast a hypothetical Tactical Spell Actions while bowed either, but no, there is no direct prohibition against performing general actions while bowed, including Tactical Actions.
Question regarding To Do What We Must
Ok, this came up at the Detroit Tourny and I didn’t have a rulebook on me to help make an appropriate determination. I was under the impression that a unit with a bowed personality counted as 0 force for determining the force of the unit for purposes of To Do What We Must.
Barring special specific card effects (like Chuichi's trait), that is correct. The criteria for determining - unit - Force totals is the same both inside and outside of the Resolution Segment, just like it says on page 83 of the Diamond Edition Rulebook.
Two Open Questions
1. Shoju Sensei and the Egg of Pan Ku: When you copy somebody with the egg who has been targeted by the shoju sensei, does that same state/condition copy as well?
No. That isn't a change or property of the Personality, but rather the Sensei. Both effects are on-going effects of the Sensei's ability, not changes to the target.
Dawn of The Empire Thunders and Shiryo no Miromoto: So does the attached personality get the bonus from the new thunders while they are in play, or is it just the original seven thunders?
You get the bonus for each member of the Seven Thunders, regardless of which Day of Thunder they came from. It seems a little crazy to have 14 of the 7 Thunders, but is is crazier that you can have Shiryo no Mirumoto attached to Mirumoto, IMO. :)
When is a player an Opposing Player?
Sorry for asking questions I'm sure must have been asked many times before, but had several confused guys recently who were not sure when your opponant was classified as being the opposing player during Battle segment.
"An" opposing player is any player who controls cards opposing your cards in a battle.
"The" opposing player is "The Enemy Leader" - the Attacker or Defender depending on which side of the battle you are on.
Direct Assault keys off of "an opposing player," BTW, so you can waste a holding controlled by anyone who has units opposed to your own units. If they no longer control opposing units, you can no longer destroy their holdings.
Tengoku Acolyte
I'm not Jeff, but I would guess that the difference is that Gifts and Favors and AFR say "search your deck and provinces for *this card*", whereas Tengoku Acolyte says to search your deck for "a Tengoku Acolyte".
Bingo.
There is no searching for the first.
Egg of Pan Ku and Shosuro from DoE
If I Egg Shosuro, can the Egg use her first react or is it considered an entering play effect?
Strangely enough, you can actually do it. Egg says, "After entering play, this card becomes a copy of that Personality's ..." and Shosuro says, "After Shosuro enters play or overlays:"
The Egg is pretty odd, but seeing as they have identical timing, it should be perfectly valid to resolve the Egg's "after entering play" effect before taking the opportunity to play any "after entering play" Reactions, unless I've overlooked something.
Invincible Legions
Invincible Legions (today's preview on AEG's site)
Center Formation
Formed by all Personalities you control, minimum of 2, opposed by an army with greater total Force.
Battle: Search your Fate deck for a card. Put it in your hand.
The question that's been raging on French website "Ryoko Owari" is about how the requirement is to be interpreted. Is it
a) All your Personalities, which must be at least 2, must be present at the battle. They must be opposed by an army that currently has more Force than their army. If one of your Personalities is killed, you still meet the requirements provided you still have at least 2; if any is removed from the battle, but not killed, you don't meet the requirements anymore.
This is correct.
Fwd from Jeff - Re: [L5R-CCG] Questions about Mirumoto
Hey folks,
One more from Jeff.
Mirumoto is only forced to focus the first time, not for the entire duel.
- Marty Lund Deputy Rules Monkey
Rules Question - Fwd: [L5R-CCG] Questions about Mirumoto
Hey Jeff,
By Mirumoto's text, is he stuck focusing until the other guy quits or his controller runs out of cards - or is that "must focus if able to" only for the first opportunity?
It applies to the same single focus that the "with 1 or 2 cards" clause applies to.
Also, "must focus if able to," precludes the use of Reaction that happen "instead of Focusing," right?
Yes.
Fwd from Jeff - Re: [L5R-CCG] [dawn] Doji Konishiko ability
Here is one from Jeff.
Konishiko does not take the Gold Cost in the Coin of an Action Card along with the ability she copies.
- Marty Lund Deputy Rules Monkey
So, does Konishiko gain, "Political Limited: Pay 4 gold and bow a Courtier you control : Gain control of target Personality until .... Bow Konishiko."
Or does she gain, "Political Limited: Bow a Courtier you control : Gain control of target Personality until .... Bow Konishiko."
?
The latter.
Cavalry Reserves
The phrases "is an 'X' card" and "has the 'X' trait" have been treated as equivalent throughout the history of L5R. This is a Cavalry card by the title, so it works the same as if it had the Cavalry trait in boldface.
False Trail
Alright I totally understand the basic idea of this card, one that allows you to force people around on the board, but it seems a little to vague. The way the first sentence is worded with "Target a personality you do not control in an army," is what I'm having trouble with. The sentence seems to me that not only can you target a personality in an opposing player's army, but also one of your own at home as at that point. It seem to me that at that point the personality would still be under your control, but not in an army. So since he's "a personality you do not control in an army," can you use False Trail also to move a personality into a battlefield? Thanks.
You must target a Personality who you don't control and is in an army.
That should cover everything related to the rules not involving Web of Lies for Friday. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of your Clear and Distinct Subject Line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
