Your Rules for September 2, 2004

Temple of Snakes and other stuff

1) in the accumulated rulings, under the entering play part, there's this sentence : "Any single card or action that brings a card into play and gives it the Shadowlands trait is considered to be "bringing a Shadowlands card into play" regardless of the exact relative timing of the two effects".

Can it be applied to the bloodspeaker trait with Temple of Snakes ? If yes, does it give the cost reduction with Iuchiban sensei ?

That ruling was specifically made for the Shadowlands Trait and cards that interact with it. I can't extend it to any other traits. Jeff could, but he hasn't.

2)I have a dishonored personnality, I attach her an honor gaining item (blessed sword, imperial standard or celestial). What happened ? a) my personnality is rehonored. b) I gain the honor for the item.

The Personality having the item attached to them is considered to be "involved" in the entering-play Honor Gains. That rehonors the Personality.

Question about Pick your Battles/Sound Strategy

I have a question about Sound Strategy : can I retrieve a Pick your Battles with it ?

Yes. Pick Your Battles is played During Resolution, not After Resolution as Sound Strategy prohibits. It can't get back say, Rallying Cry.

Shi-Tien Yen-Wang Temple

isn't the condition "before another player's action targets one of your Personalities" pretty much always occuring?

No. "Before" and "After" triggers for Reactions always mean "immediately before" and "immediately after."

A timing question

Field of Glorious Slaughter - does the extra experience for cards destoryed at the battle include cards destoryed at resolution

It includes cards destroyed during resolution. The Terrain is still in play.

If Field includes cards destroyed at resolution, then the matter of it being in a increase in, or a separate honor gain from, the honor gained from destorying the card. If it is separate, then one could do a 'Crush the Unworthy - Field of Glorious Slaughter combo" and if gain honor in a battle for cards bowed with Crush - whereas if it was an increase, no honor would be gained for those cards..

They are distinct gains. However, they both happen during Resolution. You will gain no Honor during Battle Resolution from destroying units hit by Crush the Unworthy - not from the Rulebook and not from Field of Glorious Slaughter.

What does Perform mean [Rules]

What does the definition of a Personality Performing an Action?

The Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 71, should describe this properly.

rules questions

If you are attacking with two units and your opponent plays overwhelmed, if you cancel the send home on the first unit will the second unit stay as well?

You don't Cancel Effects. You Cancel Actions and Negate Effects.

If you Negate the movement of one unit with something like Right Hand of the Emperor, the other still moves.

If you Cancel the Action of Overwhelmed before you send anyone home, the Overwhelmed doesn't produce any more effects.

can you play reactions at a battle where you have no presence?

Nothing in the Rules prohibits this. The Rule of Presence only applies to Open and Battle Actions, (and Limited Actions played as Opens such as via Plans Within Plans).

That should be everything not related to Dawn of the Empire for September 2, 2004. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of your clear and distinct subject line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
