Your Rules for Wednesday September 1, 2004

Rules Q - Jeff/Marty

Does a weapon have it's own force? (simular to followers that give + to a stat) archive: " A Follower providing "+X Force" has "X" Force of its own.

Ie does a +4f item itself have 4 force?

Yes.

Since black heart says any opposing card, could a player target the scimitar to reduce it's force (and bonus) to 0?

Yes.

If the personality instead is targeted with blackheart and reduces the personality to 0f it also reduces the bonus from attached items to 0 as well correct?

It does not affect the bonus in any way. The bonus was there first, and the Dark Heart's effect come later.

Therefore, it goes like this:

Personalities Base Force (4) + Item's Force (4) = 8 Force - 8 Force from Dark Heart = 0 Force

The Item is still giving +4 Force the whole time. The penalty from Dark Heart is simply big enough to compensate.

Ie my opponent targets my 4f personality with senpent scimitar attached +4f (personality 8f total) is the personality now at 0f or 4f?

As noted above, 0F.

Alternately my 4f personality has a +2f ninja mentor attached (personality 6f total) the personality is targeted by black heart, are the personality *and* the mentor both at 0f? or does the ninja mentor remain unaffected? (leaving my personality with 2f)

Just the Personality is affected. He gets -6F, enough to reduce his already modified Current Force (6) to 0.

4F + 2F - 6F is still 0F.

Shi-Tien Yen-Wang Temple’s Reaction (RULES)

A) I have a Personality with 4C, no Retainers in play. My opponent has no Personalities. He want to play a Kolat Assassin. I use the Reaction of Shi-Tien Yen-Wang Temple and becames an ilegal target. What happens?

Shi-Tien Yen-Wang Temple as a weird wording. It tells you to do it - before - they get targeted. Normally, affects trigger When or After such a thing happens.

I'm not quite sure how that meshes with the rest of the rules. It is a new card, and thusly I shall use this as an excuse to toss more work on Jeff's desk.

Forwarded.

Watch List/Errata update

Yoritomo Utemaro is being removed from the Watch List as of today.

There are no other cards currently on the list.

There is no new balance errata to any cards or Strongholds at this time.

Unintentional illegal play

I know one cannot announce an illegal action when they have no way of making it legal, but what if one does that by mistake - say, I announce I want to play this Kiho, but forgot it was a Shugenja-only Kiho and have only a Monk. Can the opponent force me to discard the card, or does it have to go back to my hand?

You aren't supposed to alter the game state with illegal plays. The card should go back into your hand. The game should be as if you never made the attempt (because you couldn't).

As for penalties, goof-ups are goof ups. If your opponent has to call you on trying to make plays to your advantage that aren't legal too often (for some cases, even once is too often), he's going to call a judge and the judge is probably going to give you a lecture and a caution to stop doing that. If you make it a habit of such behavior, the judge is probably going to eventually have to boot you for being disruptive / cheating.

That should be everything that's not related to Dawn of the Empire for Wednesday, September 1st. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of your clear and distinct Subject Line and I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
