Spell shuffling

I realize that I can now play the second Ciphered Scroll to exchange The Fires from Within with the original Speed of the Plains, but if I do so, can I cast Speed of the Plains again, even though Najato has clearly cast it this turn already?

No. It does not matter if that copy of Speed of the Plains moved to your hand and then back into play. It is still the same copy, and still under the effect of its "once per turn" clause.

Now, if you had a different copy of Speed of the Plains in your hand, you'd be in business.

How many time will he die

The question is : at the end of the turn, since the destruction was not negated, but Kuon was destroyed and returned back, does The Mountain Does Not Move, still affects him, and does he died in terrible pain, tough kisada really wanted hard to keep him alive ?

The Mountain Does Not Move does not care if you left play and returned. If you are in play at the end of the turn you were affected by The Mountain Does Not Move, it will destroy you.

ISOTF vs. Earth Dragon

Can In Search of the Future be used to reduce the bonuses granted by Personalities' abilities (e.g. Earth Dragon, Yoritomo Chimori etc.)?

No. Cards are always in the same unit as themselves, thusly all bonuses a card gives itself are exempt from In Search of the Future's effect, by the card's own text: "except bonuses from cards in the same unit."

In Search of the Future actually has its own entry in the L5R FAQ on alderac.com if you'd like further information.

A Knife in the Dark

Quick Question about a Knike in the Dark:

It give the Ninja the abilities, but what is the duration?

Unless otherwise stated, the duration is until the end of the turn.

Also, HOW THW HECK DOES THE HEART OF BUSHIDO WORK??

Once you reach the end the duration (until the shugenja unbows or leaves play) of the first effect (give the target +1/+1 and Tactician, Double Chi, or Yu +5), destroy the caster.

The problem with this wording is that you typically go sentence-by-sentence resolving the Action by starting any continuous effects and resolving any instantaneous effects. So you'd normally start the bonus effect, and then you'd read the second sentence and kill your Personality immediately.

That wasn't what Design intended the card to do. It works as I mentioned above (once the shugenja unbows or leaves play, kill him).

Honor Lesson Dojo

How Would Honor Lesson Dojo interact with Lotus at Dusk. Honor Lesson Dojo say after both players pass and before Delayed Terrains, bow it to take one open or battle actions.

Now if I use that one actin to play Lotus at Dusk would I get 2 more actions from it or just one from the rulebook effect? or none because of the Wording on Honor Lesson Dojo?

If you played Lotus at Dusk off of Honor's Lesson Dojo, you'd be able to gain one Action from the Rulebook for playing a Formation, but not one from Lotus At Dusk. The Action gained from H.L.D. isn't a "normal" Action that Lotus at Dusk triggers off of.

Rules queries [RULES]

1) Utaku Jamaira adds +1 to the personal honor of "all your Unicorn personalities". I presume this means "in play", or does it add to the personalities in your provinces as well?

[MARTY] Cards in your Provinces don't qualify as "your Unicorn personalities." "Your card" indicates that you are the controller of the card.

"If you have not yet begun a turn, bow your stronghold to search your deck, then your provinces, for this card." Note the lack of the word "may", as in "you MAY bow your stronghold . . ." Worded as it is, it could be interpreted as "If you go second, and don't have a copy of this card in your deck, you lose automatically."

[MARTY] All "Battle," "Open," "Limited," and "Reaction" abilities are optional unless otherwise specified.

That's one of the most fundamental rules of L5R - you choose whether or not to take those Actions. They aren't compulsory unless explicitly stated.

OK, that covers everything I could find from May 7, 2004 that wasn't handled in-thread. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULEs] in the subject line and I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
