Rules for Tuesday, April 27, 2004

Tireless and ring of water (do battles occur every turn regardless)

Do battles occur at the defender's provinces every turn regardless of assigned units?

The Battles occur so long as a player has declared his Attack Phase (which is optional).

It doesn't matter at all whether or not units are actually assigned. Assigning no one and then moving someone in during the Battle Action Segment is a perfectly legal tactic, and especially effective in many cases.

Reigons of Rokugan and Shinsei's Shrine

If the event Reigons of Rokugan pops up, and a player uses it to search for Shinsei's Shrine, do they have to discard the card in the province they attach it to?

The Province no longer has the capacity to hold any Dynasty cards, no matter how or when they got there. With no Province to hold it, the Dynasty card in question goes to the discard, just like a card you are instructed to take from your deck and play is Discarded if you can not play it when instructed.

Legacy of My Ancestors

Reaction: Before one of your Personalities is destroyed, bow and destroy Legacy Of My Ancestors to move any of that Personality's Spells, Followers, or Items to one of your other Personalities. If the Personality to be destroyed is in an army, the other Personality must be in that army.

Does the acting player get to decide the order in which the cards are re-attached?

You only decide the order of simultaneous effects if they conflict with eachother. There is nothing about attaching any of these cards that conflicts with attaching the other (though one might enable the other, that's not the same thing), so you have to attach them all at the same time.

The cards to be attached must be legally able to attach before they ARE attached and modify the Personality. If a card can't attach to the Personality before the effects of attachment occur, then the attachment is Negated for that card and it stays where it is (on the Personality about to be destroyed).

Obsidian Mirror

I use the obsidian mirror ability, naming "iaijutsu challenge" My opponent declare no iaijutsu challenges in hand

How i can know if he trying cheat me?

Third-party confirmation, typically a judge.

I'd hate to be the judge called over every turn during that match, though. :-/

Unit destruction

If an effect destroys "a unit," is it considered to individually destroy every card in that unit?

Yes, and all at the same time, no less.

And if you destroy an army, you're actually destroying every individual unit, and consequently every individual card in those units.

If I buy one Gross donuts, it can be said truthfully that I am buying 12 Dozen donuts, or even 144 Individual donuts. Each of these is true. When you speak, you use whichever is most relevant to the point you are trying to make regarding said donuts.

(Or, to be metric-friendly, think about traveling a Kilometer. You could also claim to travel a thousand Meters or 100,000 Centimeters.)

Crude Blade and Seppuku

Does this mean that I can attach Crude Blade to one of my Samurai or Courtiers and then have them commit seppuku?

I'm going to forward this to Jeff.

"Causes" is a little ambiguous here, and I want to double-check with Jeff on how far it extends for Seppuku

OK, that looks like everything for 27 April 2004 that wasn't handled in-thread. If I missed your question from that day, please repost it with the flag [RULES] in the subject line and I'll get to it at the first opportunity.
