The Rules for Monday, April 19, 2004

Utaku Etsumi

Her traits are : Unicorn Clan Battle Maiden * Samurai * Cavalry * Unique * Soul of Otaku Kamoko Experienced.

Is she consitered an experienced personality, allowing me to dig for her when boundless sight comes up?

No.

'The Experience level of the Personality himself may be differnet from the level of the Personality named in the "Soul of ..." trait. When this happens, the level inside the "Soul of ..." trait only matters for matching common names between sets.' (Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 51, "Soul of ..." Personalities)

Utaku Etsumi's card in Diamond Edition is Nonexperienced.

Seppuku + Nagori

Hi everybody,

We had recent discussions about the question whether Nagori can increase a 1 point seppuku honor loss. Marty already told that it would be possible, but since he wasn't rules deputy in January some people wanted a confirmation.

Yes. Nothing special about Seppuku prevents subsequent increases of the honor loss it reduced to 1.

Regions and Tamori Minubo (Jeff)

If you move the region with Minobu, it is not brought into play (as the Province it is in is not being resolved), so it is discarded. Is this right?

I believe they tried to phrase Minobu's ability to happen before the option to bring the region into play and the subsequent mandate to discard it takes effect. If the region is moved, you'll deal with it the next time the Events Phase process reaches the province it lands in.

Overconfidence vs wedge.

Ok I have heard a mixxed bag of answers regarding this one, justr wondering if I can get an official answer. can overconfidence be played to bow a wedged personality before they take the province. thanks for your time.

Assuming the Personality is getting a Force Bonus from Wedge greater than or equal to his or her printed chi, sure.

Wedge gives the Force Bonus at the beginning of the Resolution Segment, well before you compare the total Force of each army. Overconfidence will gank a Wedge'd personality some good, and probably result in your entire army being wiped out wholesale.

And you can't even play Fall on Your Knees to stop it since it is no longer the Battle Action Segment. Wedge is a gambling man's card, to be sure.

Dueling Yajindens

Let's say that some clever non-Horde player uses "The Egg of P'an Ku" on his opponent's Yajinden and bows him to steal back his own previously-stolen personality from the Shadowlands.

If the Egg unbows, who retains control of the personality?

Stupid Yajinden. We hates him. :P

Both effects last until the expire. The last "take control of" still in effect wins.

In the situation addressed above, non-Horde player ends the effect of his Egg of Yajinden. The original Yajinden's effect is still in play if he still hasn't unbowed. That effect would apply, and with no Egg-Yajinden effect to trump it, the Horde player would control the poor go-between.

This isn't like Feign Death is that the Personality hasn't left play, so the "take control of" effects on him never lapsed. You can't control cards in the Discard Pile, so "take control of" effects go kaput when the Personality hits the Discard Pile. When the Personality is reintroduced to play, it goes to the home of its previous controler (card text).

I don't see a rule that says control of a Personality automatically defaults to the owner. Rather, it seems to default to the player who brought the Personality into play. (Feign Death, Kolat Recruiter, Seppun Jin)

Kamman Exp

Would Political Entangelment allow you to reduce the cost of Kamman Exp to 0 if he was targeted twice?

Sure, you can reduce his ability's Gold Cost to 0. You'd knock him down to a 1/2 then, though, and you can't do anything about his Chi Loss with Political Entanglement since it doesn't use a Numeral, but the actual written word, "two."

Also, look out for using Political Entanglements with cards that say "-X." L5R considered the minus sign to be part of the Numeral (Diamond Edition Rulebook, Glossary, "Numeral") and reducing it would merely make a "-1" into a "-2" not a "0."

Also are Fate Hands considered Face Down?

Yes. As are cards in Fate and Dynasty decks and unrevealed cards in Provinces. (Diamond Edition Rulebook, Glossary, "face-down")

About Shinden Horiuchi

If I'm playing shinden Hotiuchi, do I get the free follower for attaching a spell to my personnalities ??

Since the "your" term only apllies to cards in play, I d'rather say no, but there are many questions about it ...

The Reaction is played AFTER the Spell is attached. At that point, the card in question is an Item, and it came from your hand, so you can play the Reaction.

Question Yu + Pick your Battles

What is the timing of Yu and Pick your Battles?

Yu resolves first. Then you can play Pick Your Battles.

OK, that looks like everything. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] in the subject line and I'll get to it at the first opportunity.

Thanks,
