? for Jeff

Can you use Rising shadows to bow another players Blood speaker to then Bow one of there cards?

Absolutely. That's exactly what it says.

Pep'trchek

Ok. I know I am a noob but I need to know the answer.

Pep'trchek

Battle: Once per battle, give one of your Ratling Personalities in this battle +1F or +1C for each of his Ratling Followers.

Can this ability be used by Pep'trcheck if he is at home?

No. He refers to other cards "in this battle". He must be present.

Castle of the Wasp and No hidding place

This was answared before but some advervasaries made me think otherwise. Can Castle of the Wasp and No hidding place use Tsuruchi technique???

To do the ranged not to just raise?

"Once per battle, you may target the current Province with a Ranged Attack from exactly one of your attacking cards to lower its Strength by the Attack¹s strength."

To use this effect, you have to be the Attacker or an attacking ally, and the ranged attack must be an uncombined ranged attack coming from one of your cards in the attacking army. Tsuruchi Technique is not in your attacking army -- it is a card played from your hand. It doesn't combo with the City.

Reactions

I. Chal. and Blade of Penance? Which honor gain resolves first that rehonors the peep?

The Blade. Outside effects and reactions triggered by winning or losing a duel occur before the results of the duel itself.

Dosen't this seem counter intutitive?

Nothing ever SEEMS counterintuitive... (Sorry. Got overly technical there.)

How can you have a reaction to winning a duel before the action card creating the duel has resolved?

Because winning a duel happens during the duel. You don't win at the very end. You win as soon as Chi totals are compared and one is discovered to be higher.

The fact that the results for winning and losing don't happen at the exact same time as winning and losing themselves do it a little bit of Designer fudging. It makes duel and battle resolution a little more analogous (consistentency is good), and it means fewer things happen simultaneously (simultaneity is bad).

queston about how long effects last

I seen where jeff ruled you can Feign Death someone you used Show of Good Faith on and It would allow you to declare an attack. I believe the reason was becuase the personlity died, left play for a split second and was returned back to play and the effects of Show of Good Faith was gone. Correct?

Yes. Show of Good Faith's attacking restriction lasts while you control the stolen Personality. It specifies that duration in its own text. Since no one controls destroyed cards, killing the stolen Personality ends the restriction.

What if i play writtne in Blood on a Champion or another 6 chi personlity Kolat Assiasin that personlity and then try to use Seppun Jin to retrive them from that players dead pile? Is his chi 4 still or does it go back to six?

Written in Blood does not specify a duration, so its effects last until the end of the turn. Dying does NOT normally end any effects currently applying to a card in L5R, so the dead Personality is still 4C for the rest of the turn no matter where it is.

Question about some Asahina guy

Ok, the new Asahina Jade Magistrate Courtier guy (I can't remember his name)

Asahina Nizomi.

has a chi boosting ability when one of your personalities enters a duel. Since it doesn't say otherwise, I am assuming that the effect lasts until the end of the turn.

Correct.

If this is the case, does the effect of not getting killed, only becoming bowed, by a duel that normally kills stay until the end of the turn or does it stop after the duel is over, giving you a chi boost but no drawback for the rest of the turn?

"If THIS DUEL destroys the loser, it bows the loser instead." [card text, emphasis added] The second effect applies only to the duel Nizomi reacted to.

egg of pan ku

at a tournament on monday night we had a scorpian player playing byushi aki(the one that as a limited shuffles himself into the deck and gets a politacal action card.) he egg of pan ku's him and then uses the origanal version to get a politcial action. then he uses the egg to get another political action. The question arises does he shuffle himself back into the dyanasty deck, or does he go to the fate deck or the discard pile?

The Egg becomes a Personality upon being played. Personalities are Dynasty cards. It goes into Dynasty decks/discards.

New Watch List Cards

I noticed that the Watch List has two more friends: Strategic Crossroad and Shrine to Benten. I won't say anything more on this subject except that if these two cards are errata'd, Crab will be even worse than it is now. Those are very important, key cards in Crab's box party archetype. So AEG, please consider us lowly crustaceans while pursuing your mad quest to curb the power of the Lion clan :)

The Watch List is not open to player suggestion.

Implied traits

Only... let me suggest to put back the full list of implied traits under the 'implied traits' header. It seems more... intuitive? You look in the Glossary under Oni and, yes, they are nonhuman. You look for Naga and... wait they aren't there! On a leap of logic you look under human, where it says Oni and Naga and Critters aren't. I don't think the rulebook is better for the change.

We're constantly trying to balance the rulebook's design between the established players who need it for rules and the new ones trying to learn the game. Long lists are frightening and hard to digest. If we ever make a comprehensive rulebook, the full, daunting list would go back into the main body.

Question on a ruling that was made (Sozen/Pick your battles)

FROM RULES POST:I have been informed that it was ruled that Hida Sozen cannot be the one unit to die for Pick Your Battles (and subsequently not die from his trait).

Pick Your Battles cannot be played at all if Sozen is in the battle and isn't going to die because the trigger for Pick Your Battles isn't there.

QUESTION: Does this ruling mean that Sozen is untargetable with Pick your battles while he is in an army? Or does it mean that while Sozen is in an army and his trait is in effect Sozen's controller cannot play Pick your battles?

When I say "it can't be played", I mean "it can't be played." I don't mean "you can play it but can't target Sozen".

To me it doesn't make sense that Sozen's trait prohibits the playing of Pick your Battles. The trigger on Pick Your Battles reads: "play before your army is destroyed for losing or tying in a battle." If Sozen's trait is in effect your army is still being destroyed.

Sozen is in your army. If the situation is right, you know Sozen isn't going to be destroyed -- his effect is unconditional and is known to all players. That means you know your army isn't going to be destroyed. That means there is no trigger to react to.

In addition I believe that Pick your Battles effect takes place before Sozen's trait could kick in. Sozen's trait kicks in when he is destroyed while the trigger for Pick your Battles is "before your army is destroyed".

It is still before something that you know is not going to happen.

Please don't kill the only competitive Crab archtype in the environment pre-Hidden City.:)

Rules clarifications don't care about Clan balance, though. They're based in varying degrees on the cards, the rulebook, past rulings, and intent.

Shrine to Bentan on watch list??

Can someone please explain to me why this card is on the watch list?

Sure! It's as fast as corrupt gold, yet requires fewer cards and no honor losses.

If I am not mistaken u can... bow to get 2 gold, or bow + bow a personality for 4 gold when paying for a personality. Personally for a rare I think it is pretty crap. If u wanna put some cards that are opowerd on the watch list go no further than.

Shosuro Maru Scorpion Clan Distracter . Courtier Soul of Yogo Asami Open: Bow Maru and target a player to force that player to target and bow one of his unbowed Personalities.

The Watch List is not simply for strong cards. It is also not open to public suggestion.

Rules Question (JEFF)

Hi Jeff,

Question for you: If Volcanic Fields is in play & my opponent targets one of my personalities when it resolves, can I cancel Volcanic Fields with Flee the Darkness?

It's a Battle action. Check.

It's targeted at one of your Personalities or Followers by someone other than you. Check.

If one of your Personalities is targeted, Flee can cancel it. If it's canceled, anything it has already destroyed stays dead.
