Greetings,

Rules for 12 December 2003

[Re: Matsu Hyun, Experienced]

Am I right to suppose that all the unit survive?

No. Sorry, I misread the question, and haven't seen a physical copy of Hyun yet. Only the Personality is saved, with no honor gain for that card. Any attached cards (besides Ancestors) will be destroyed as usual with the usual honor gain.

Isawa Jun

since Jun's Chi is 5, you could conceivably reduce her cost twice (to 5) while bringing her into play and end up with a 2F, 1C personality. Is this true?

No. There's only one time you're ever bringing the card into play, so only one opprtunity to alter the cost.

the chi reduction has the language "permanently reduce" in front of it, but the gold cost reduction does not. Does that mean that the gold reduction only lasts until the end of the turn?

Yes (Diamond rules, pg. 70)

A question about Ambush and Call to Arms

I had Togashi Satsu bowed, and he ambushed him with Yogo Soto. I played Call to Arms in responce to the ambush, and unbowed Satsu. The way we read Ambush, he had to assign his unit because of the way Ambush targeted, and Satsu slaughtered Yogo Soto, and then bowed at the end of the Ambush. Did we do things correctly?

Soto did not have to be assigned. Someone on that side of the table had to be, but Call to Arms (which is perfectly legal here) occurs during Declaration, which is well before Assignment.

Question about Death of Tadaji

Generally, when we can reduce something, it says to a minimum of X - but that text is missing here. Does this mean that we can reduce an honor gain below 0, and make it into an honor loss?

No (Diamond rules, pg. 62).

Shadowlands and Politics

Reactions are not ACTIONS, correct?

They are (Diamond Rules, pg. 63). I'm curious where people get this idea, as it seems to be surprisingly common...
