If a dishonored personality wins a battle against opposing units, can Rhetoric be used to stop the Pers from rehonoring?
No. There's no honor gain to redirect, because rehonoring happens "instead."

can Balance in Nothingness be played in response to an Ambush?

Can you you Tsuruchi Tech to increase a personality's ranged attack on a province (via stronghold).

What happens if I To Do What We Must a unit with Shireikan attached?
The entire unit must be destroyed, including Shireikan, as a cost (card text). Nothing comes back.
Destroy Ashura for Overwhelmed. Destroy 1 opponent for his ability. And opponent send 2 home or destroy 1
Aside: the effect at issue here is a trait, not an ability.

What happens when you increase a permanent force bonus?
The increase lasts until the end of the turn (Rules Archive, Hoshi Wayan, Experienced 2, and Diamond rules, pg. 70).
