Rules for 3 December 2003

Zen Faulkes, sent 4 December 2003 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Greetings,

Togashi Shozo RULES Q

Since this is a trait, not a Reaction, and is thus always "on", what does "once per turn" mean?

It means the effect can only happen once a turn. (Is this meant to be some sort of subtle trick question?)

Do I have to use his ability at the first opportunity?

No. I can see where you're going with this, but to make life easier, treat it a little like a Reaction that says, "You can do this while bowed." It's just a lot easier to fit it on the card by making it a trait.

Rules for 2 December 2003, Part 2

i thought Overwhelmed only requires your to target your biggest personality for distruction (that's why in gold you had to send units home if your biggest was bowed - could not be targeted under gold rules). The fact that sozen can't be destroyed does not stop you choosing him surely.

The current ruling on forced decisions is that you can't pick an option that you know in advance will fail (Archive; http://l5r.alderac.com/rulings/#Decision).

So then, Lion Player A using Kyuden Ikoma attacks Crane Player B. The Crane player defends, and uses TDWWM. The Lion player cancels the action using Kyuden Ikoma's ability. Does this mean that the Crane Player does not have to pay the cost of TDWWM, and does not have to destroy their personality?

That's not what it means. I messed up. (There's been a bloody awful lot of questions lately, and each answer is getting perhaps something *slightly* less than deep reflection and thorough meditation).

Despite targeting occuring before costs being paid, if an action is canceled during targeting, costs still have to be paid (Archive; http://l5r.alderac.com/rulings/#Cancel).

Rules Question - Show of Good Faith

Can someone take control of your Clan Champion with Show of Good Faith if they are not playing the same clan as you.

No (Diamond rules, pg. 101).

Rules Question

Do followers have personal honor?

No (Diamond rules, pg. 46).

If so since it is not printed on their cards is it zero?

(Smelling trap or combo, not sure which.) For what purpose? See Diamond rules, pg. 63, in any case.

Sepukku

Can a dishonored personality commit seppuku during battle if targeted by a range attack?

No. Honor loss from a Personality dying is a rulebook effect.
