Rules for 26 November 2003
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Greetings,
Duels in Battle
[Doji Kurohito Experienced 2] issued the duel of honor. [The opposing Personality] struck and played Concede Defeat. What happens[?]
Nothing. There are no stated benefits for Kurohito's duel, and all the effects of losing (i.e., death) were negated.
Yajinden in the Herald part 2
What if I Egg of Pan Ku him and one always remains bowed? Would that allow me to take a new personality every turn because there would always be a bowed Yajinden?
No (Diamond Edition rules, pg. 69).
Card costs vs effects
Is there a rule-of-thumb way of determining what parts of a card's text denote costs, and what parts denote effects?
Yes; Diamond Edition rulebook, pg. 70, under, of all things, the section labelled "Costs and effects."
If you read one page in the rulebook, better make it page 70. I seem to be quoting it a lot.
Feign death
does a player using [Feign Death] gain the personal honor of the Personality when it enters play and then lose 2 after that (for a net gain of 0 if PH=2)?
No. You can only gain honor during the Dynasty Phase (a rule which has somehow been lost and escaped re-entry from a surprising number of rulebook revisions). See Rules Archive: http://l5r.alderac.com/rulings/#Enter_play
A new player speaks up... (was: Promo Card in Herald LOL)
With over 100 messages in the last 48 hours (in comparison, the Warlord mailing list has had 9 posts- the majority of them rules related)... with people not being kind enough to post card text, not only for the rules guys (so they wouldn't need to look up every card) as well people like me- a player interested in trying this game, and without a photographic memory of the card text...
Actually, it's more convenient for me when people do *not* quote card text in their rules questions, because it's just text I'm going to delete anyway to make my posts compact. There are fine search engines available to answer what cards do (although their inaccuracies have caused some rather odd questions from time to time).
I'm also not fond of, "So, we were having this game, and I was losing, and then he pulled this combo and I was wondering..." sort of preamble. I cut that too. Just ask the question! :)
Forgot this one from a couple of days back...
Rules for 24 November 2003, Part 2
I assume that Feign Death and Loyal Yojimbo can be played on [Hiruma] Ashihei when he's destroyed without dishonoring him, due to card text sequencing.
Yes to both.
