Greetings,
Kisada's Shrine, Wedge and Yu
If I Wedge a peep with Yu, can I bring him/her back with Kisada's Shrine?
No (FAQ; http://l5r.com/ccg/faq.html).
Rules for 13 November 2003
What happens in the case of a Ranged Attack with no printed effects that change it from Targetting Force[...] combines with a Ranged Attack that Targets Chi by specific card text?
I've already answered this. The whole thing targets Chi.
Why?
Ah, so many possible answers. Let's try these on for size:
1. It is the ruling most consistent with past precedents. If combined Ranged Attacks acquire traits (rulebook), and divided Ranged Attacks keep special characteristics (precedent: Stars Scatter), why should combined Ranged Attacks not acquire other characterstics?
2. Why not? Nobody has suggested one single logical problem with this ruling, or a past ruling or precedent that contradicts this one.
3. Because I say so. ("Ahhhh, power...")
4. Because Jeff says so. ("Ahhhh, *supreme* power...")
5. Because any other ruling would cause the Universe to collapse. ("There are forces at work here that we have tried to sheild you from...")
Why is one "trait" or "special effect" of the 2 ranged attacks involved kept and the other one lost?
Because card text overrides the rulebook (First Cardinal Rule).
What happens if I have a ranged attack that targets Personal Honor and one that Targets Chi and I'm able to combine them?
We're thinking about it. I say again: Nobody has named cards that would make this possible, so it's not as though it's an urgent issue.
Please let's not skirt around the issue.
Nobody's avoiding the issue; you're pressing it. Unless there is a card combo that actually exists, saying that there should be an answer to a hypothetical question *now* is just an argument from impatience.
I also feel that the ruling changes the meaning of the rulebook as currently worded a lot and leaves a lot of space for interpretation.
Both of these are good reasons why we have a Rules team.
Any ruling can expand or change the rulebook. Since the Diamond Edition rulebook was printed before the Chi Ranged Attack card, it's utterly illogical to expect the Diamond rulebook to cover that situation. Heck, for all anyone knows, the Reign of Blood rulesheet will have a completely new section on Ranged Attacks to cover the Chi Ranged Attack card.
As for the "space for interpretation," anyone who wants clarification is free to ask for it. Sure, there's one outstanding issue, but it's hypothetical rather than concerning printed cards, and I've already said we're thinking about it.
Thus I want to have as many examples of possible complex interactions as possible so that when I am running a tournament I can make the best possible rulings.
Fine. Name real cards, ask the question, and we'll do our best to answer it. That's what one needs to make tournament rulings.
And before anyone says, "You answered a hypothetical question to begin with!", yes, I did, but let's face it, there's a card coming out that makes this a reasonable question to ask. There's nothing wrong with asking hypothetical questions that have no basis in existing or forthcoming cards, but you can't expect us to give them the same effort as real, printed cards that people are playing with.
Question about The Company You Keep
"This happens before Honor gain". [D]oes this just mean that the personality comes out dishonored and the player doesn't get the chance to gain any honor from him?
That's what it means.
Keyword Rule : is mask of the maw an "oni" card ?
Is the Mask of the Maw an oni card ?
