Greetings,

question for JEFF

I was then assuming Castle of the Wasp lets me target a province with a range attack, combined or not, from my attacking unit, then I got to the words "exactly ONE of your attacking cards" which made me think I was wrong. Then, after reading one of the posts at the Kobune Port where they discussed that the Tsuruchi followers are a threat to provinces, it made me think that perhaps I was initially correct. So what really does Castle of the Wasp do?

Just what it says, of course! ;)

Copying Jeff's answer for the record: "Once per battle, when you make an uncombined ranged attack from one card in your attacking army, you may target it at the defending Province to reduce its strength by the ranged attack's strength. (You MAY modify the strength of this attack with Reactions -- this does not cause the attack to come from more than one card.)

"Once per turn, when one of your Mantis Clan Personalities in your army makes an uncombined ranged attack or adds to a combined ranged attack, and that attack targets a card in the opposing army, your Personality doesn't need to bow. (This may not combine with the first benefit because Provinces are not in the opposing army.)"

Black Wind question

Is destroying the primary shugenja (or any participating shugenja) a cost ?

Yes (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 62-62).

If it is, I suppose that negating it with Decoy would cancel the whole spell ?

Yes (Rules Archive, General Rules, Costs).

On: Decoy

Destroying the province happens before the honor loss ; so if my opponent has 1 province left, and i am at -15 and cast BWFtS, he loses first ?

Yes.

Agasha Mumoko with Shiryo no Togashi, Shireikan, Monkey Magistrate, Imperial Honor Guard, Black Wind..., Mantis Shugenja. I cast Black Wind, Shireikan replaces the shugenja at the head of the unit ; which cards remain attached to him ?

The ones he could legally attach (card text). That is, Monkey Magistrates. Attachments during a transfer are made simultaneously, not consecutively (Rules Archive, General Rules, Attaching).

Question about Shinjo Xushen exp

[D]oes Xushen's trait lower EACH of them by 2, or just the combined ranged attack?

The combined attack (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 63).

A Few Quick Questions...

What was the first expansion/set to use the 'updated' layout for the card fronts?

Pearl Edition.

What was the first expansion/set to use the 'updated' (non-interlocking rings) layout for the card backs?

The Spirit Wars.

Is there anywhere that lists the order the 'Clan War Foil' cards need to be in to tell the complete story?

http://pages.sbcglobal.net/sarah-and-zen/l5r/foils.html

For Kamoko's Charge, does the bonus apply immediatly....

Yes.

and not go away if the Terrain is destroyed?

Incorrect (Gold Edition rulebook, pg.55).

More "Castle of the Wasp" nonsense

Assuming I'm attacking, can I use "No Hiding Place" with a Ranged Attack from one of my attacking personalities, and keep him/her from bowing using the stronghold's trait?

No. A card at home is not opposing (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 74).

Heroic Sacrifice x3

Can you play Heroic sacrifice if there is only one opposing unit?

Yes.

Castle of the Wasp rules question

If I use a Shugenja to cast a spell that creates a ranged attack, can I use the ability of the stronghold?

Yes, if it doesn't create consecutive ranged attacks.

Watermonk... TOO GOOD!

We [Shadowlands] get the same number of boxable people as the guys who are going first all the time [Lion], and they're *worse* than the 2 they get? How is that fair?

There's more to faction balance than the number of turn one personalities and goinf first. Much more.

Hida Sozen and Overwhelmed

If i have two units in a battle, one being Hida Sozen and the other having less force and my opponent plays overwhelmed, can I choose to destroy Sozen, knowing full well he won't be destroyed, or am I forced to send back my two units ?

To repeat Jeff's answer for the record: "Neither can you choose to destroy someone that you already know won't die."

Both units leave.

A Question regarding Reactions

"Also each printed instance of a reaction can only be use once per trigger." Does this mean I can only use one card to react with?

Depends. Multiple reactions from different copies of the same card by title are fine. Multiple reactions from the same physical copy of a card are not.
