Rules for 21 September 2003
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Greetings,
Moshi Yoshinaka + Overwhelmed
Player A attacks with 2 units, one being targeted by Moshi Yoshinaka. Player B defends and plays overwhelmed. What can A do ?
Currently, the attacker must destroy the highest force unit (Rules Archive, Specific Cards, Actions, Overwhelmed).
Kakita Mai xp
does that mean SH player cannot play holdings that cause honor loss when come into play since SH cannot lose honor.
No, it does not. Not unless the honor loss is a cost. Most holdings cause honor loss as effects, but I don't want to say there are none where its a cost.
And also what about those holdiong that cause honor loss when bow for gold?
Depends on whether the loss is a cost (most aren't) or an effect.
Rules Q
during a battle if a player passes are they considered to have taken an action?
No. But...
I'm attacking bob, my unit has shiryo no taisa attached. He opts to pass, I pass and use honor's lesson dojo at the end of the action phase. He plays fall on your knees, can I cancel his fall on your knees with Taisa's ability?
No. Cards that refer to "before the defender's first normal Battle or Open action" or anything functionally equivalent are not read that closely for wording (Rules Archive, General Rules, Battle, Action Segment). Shiryo no Taisa only cancels actions occuring before the first *opportunity* for an action.
Ikoma Ryozo ?
If the Right Hand Wind ability is used to bring a Personality into the battle that Ryozo is in, will Ryozo go home?
Jeff Alexander may want to address the specific case (it's got Diamond stuff in it), but I refer you to the Rules Archive, General Rules, Battle: "Moving a card into a battle from elsewhere is not 'affecting a card in that battle.'"
Ikoma Ryozo ?
what if Ryozo is the one being moved? Obviously, if he's being sent from the battle being resolved to another one, he will go home; but what if he's sent from another battle to the current one?
Again, I reckon the ruling above deals with this.
Kakita Mai and wording issues w/ honor loss
Technically, if you use this ruling then it removes 4 corrupt holdings and black market from the SLH in Open. Geisha House, Copper, Stables, Gold, and Black Market all say "Bow and lose X honor to produce X gold."
Incorrect. Rules Archive, Specific cards, Holdings (E.g., Black Market): "Honor loss when producing gold is an effect, not a cost. (The card predates the uniform style indicating costs.)"
