Rules for 1 July 2003

Zen Faulkes, sent 2 July 2003 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Greetings,

I wish all my friends in Canada a very happy Canada Day. Wish I could be there...

Hida Ishi/Stand Against the Waves Question

Can I select Ishi as one of the guys who gets bowed but have him end up not being bowed because of his trait?

Yes. Rules Archive, Targeting (http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/rulings#Target).

copying and targetting questions

Shosuro technique is copying an aspect (the Chi) of the opponent in the duel, so why does it not target?

It does; just not that stat. The rules tell you what is targeted, but not *what* is targeted. *What* is targeted, as Jeff Alexander mentioned in an earlier post, is anything you have to chose or that is affected.

is a Battle Action duel cancelled if one of the duellists leaves the battle in the middle of the duel?

No. There is no rule that duellists must be in the same location. If that were true, you couldn't substitute a Personality in a duel, and you can; see Rules Archive, General Rules, Duels (http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/rulings#Duels).

Corruptions Price, Trusted Counsel

Player A pays for a follower using a corrupt holding. His opponent hits him with a Corruption's Price, killing the personality that should receive the follower. I found the rulings that the follower is discarded (not in the archive, however, which is unfortunate).

Not every question ever asked can, or should, be in the Archive.

If player A needs more than one holding to pay for the follower, does he have to pay the full cost even if he knows the attachement is invalid already?

Just to repeat Jeff Alexander's answer from an earlier post: yes.

can I wait with the CP until my opponent bowed the necessary gold to pay the card, or do I have to play it as soon as the corrupt holding is used?

You can never "save" a Reaction. See Rules Archive, General Rulings, Timing (http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/rulings#Timing).

Player A attacks, B has no defending units. A plays Trusted Counsel. [Can] B draw the cards?

Yes. There is always a Defender and Attacker in an Attack Phase.

As non of the participating players are native english speakers, we need some official statement here

Thanks for mentioning; it's useful to know when there's a language barrier.

"Opponent", by the way, is not defined in the glossary.

Yes, it is: Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 74. Also on pg. 58.

Neither is "modified"[.]

"Modified" is being used in its normal English meaning. It has no special game-related meaning. The rulebook should not be a substitute for a dictionary. :)

Code of Bushido vs. Gold Edition Rulebook

Is there an official ruling as to which one takes precedence in a tournament?

The Code of Bushido *is* the set of rules for tournaments; by definition, they take precedent. (Yes, I know people have pointed out flaws in the Code. I am not the guy to address those complaints to. Nevertheless, the Code exists to be the guide for running tournaments.)

copying and targetting questions

If both Song of Corruption and Pulse of the Black River have resolved, when I duel some one with a Geisha Assassin can I give the Geisha Assassin the Shadowlands trait?

Yes.

If so would the Geisha Assassin gain plus 1 Chi and if I lose the duel will my opponent gain the Shadowlands trait?

Yes.

Question

if a Personality has an honor requirement of - does that mean it does not need to meet any Honor Requirement, but would other wise count as a 0?

Can you give an example of why this would matter?

Maho and gameplay

Does a card with the maho trait also have the Shadowlands trait?

No.
