Greetings,

Gifts and Favors MRP question

Can you look at your face-down Provinces if there is a Gifts and Favors in your deck?

No.

When you search your other face-down provinces first, do you reveal their contents to all other players, or just look at them yourself[?]

You do not reveal the cards in Provinces. See Rules Archive, General Rules, Search (http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/rulings/#Search).

Rules for 14 April 2003, Part 2

I decide to shame my personality. But before i play the Shame, I bow Imperial Messenger to increase the honor loss. MY opponent sees my Kaukatsu and canceles my Political Reaction on the Imperial Messenger. Am I obliged to play the Shame or not?

I reckon you must, because to even try to use the Messenger, you must have announced that you were going to play a card causing an honor loss.

"I reckon"(somebody is adjusting well to Texas),

That's not a phrase I learned in Texas.

just because many people play the card wrong or it is poorly written, does not mean we have to rule on the card the way they play it, does it?

Not necessarily. I try to stay open to feedback. Keeps me honest. :)

How does his questioning relate to these lines from the rule book? "If an action is canceled, it does not count as having taken effect."

Has no bearing on the issue that I can see. As I see it, the sequence is:

1. Announce you're playing Shame. 2. Play Imperial Messenger to modify Shame. 3. Imperial Messenger's action is cancelled.

This leaves you... in the middle of playing Shame. You've announced the action, so you have to continue. You can't just abandon an action in the middle of playing it.

"If all or part of the cost of using an action or bringing a card into play is prevented, the player trying to take the action or play the card may either use further resources to complete the payment or allow the attempt to fail?"

Nice try, but not relevant. The player who canceled Imperial Messenger has not changed or interfered with the payment of *any* costs for Shame.

What if he has two different actions that could cause an honor loss in his hand like K Master or Shame? Must he now choose to play one? How does the opponent know which one he was really going to play?

As noted above, the first thing you have to do is announce that you're taking the honor loss causing action.

I do appreciate that Imperial Messenger has funky "pre-emptive" aspects in its timing, so Jeff Alexander may have other ideas about how he wants this to work.

Volcanic Fields Question

My oponents needs presence when he wants to use the card, right?

Playing Volcanic Fields from the hand? Yes.

Using the effect on a Volcanic Fields already in play? No. Delayed Terrains are funny that way.

Whatever happened to...

whatever happened to the Woolly Maggot clan?

They metamorphosed into the Woolly Fly Clan.

Gifts and Favors MRP question

Do you have to have one Gifts and Favors in play before you can search for another one?

No. That's why the text refers to "this card."

another volcanic field question

Can that bowed personality be chosen for destruction if I played the volcanic fields?

Sure. You aren't targeting your own card.

when they choose a personality is it considered my effect or thiers?

Yours, because the effect is written on ink on *your* card.

Zen Faulkes! * Crab Clan Scholar Just kidding about that Woolly Fly Clan thing.
