does this mean you can't shadow's claw during an Iaijitsu art?
Yes, that's what it means. The Shadow's Claw is a Reaction taken instead of focusing.
A question for Jeff
Can you overwhelm when there are no opposing units?
Yes. The only things Overwhelmed targets at the very beginning are "the" opposing player (that's important -- there is always "the" opposing player, it's "AN" opposing player that may or may not be present) and your own Personality.
Kosaten Shiro and costs
Kosaten Shiro
Fantastic Gardens cost 6G for Kosaten Shiro players (see <http://l5r.alderac.com/rulings/#Costs>Costs). [JA, 25 July 2000]
South Wall of Otosan Uchi (Experienced)
The active player chooses its Gold cost if controlled by a Kosaten Shiro player. [JA, 9 November 2000]
I assume I should follow the later ruling (SWoOU) and FG can cost 5 for a KS player. I wanted to check and make sure. The FG cost reduction doesn't appear to be optional, just that it allows other reductions, unlike KS & SWoOU, so you could use Hasty Exploitation if you really wanted to turn your FG into a H&F (in a non-KS Crane deck). The point being that neither FG nor SWoOU has an *optional* cost reduction, so why would SWoOU trump KS, but not FG??
Kosaten Shiro and the South Wall both have reductions that prohibit all other reductions and try to apply at the same time. This is impossible to do, so one of them needs to be arbitrarily chosen to take priority.
There is no such conflict with Kosaten Shiro and Fantastic Gardens. Furthermore, Kosaten Shiro's prohibition against other reductions will stop Fantastic Gardens' own change no matter which one's effects are applied first. The only one worded to be exclusive is the only one that applies.
If I use the lower SW cost, does KS still prevent any cost increases, even though I ignored/didn't use it's trait? SW only prevents cost reductions, not cost increases.
I'd say it does not.
Does KS stop Hitaka from making Jade cards (or at least Jade Holdings) cost more as well?
For you, yes. Hitaka changes their Gold cost. Kosaten Shiro says, "Can't do that!"
Funky question...
So, after the ruling that Ambushed personalities aren't home, here's the situation...
It's Bob's turn. Fred plays Plans within Plans. Bob plays Ambush, ambushing Personality Bobby with his personality Freddy. Bob gets first action and as he's allowed to take a limited action, he plays Ambush (call it ambush B) targetting Freddy and Bobby too. So now we have an ambush in an ambush, which is sort of fine. So Fred, as his first action in Ambush B, plays Block Supply Lines, sending Bobby *home*. Resolving the ambush B, no units are destroyed and we move on. Now we go to the other ambush....
But is Bobby home or in the ambush?
Wow, Leon. What can I say? You've still got it. I think your crowning touch was NOT having Bob control Bobby.
Bobby is home.
Kanashimi questions
How does the Onisu interact with cards that let you draw several cards ?
It can react to each of them. Drawing X cards is X draws, not one draw of X cards.
I mean, if I resolve New Year Celebration, can I activate Kanashimi's reaction to make my opponent discard the 5 cards he just drew ?
Yes.

Does scroll cache's cost reduction last until the end of the turn?
Yes.
Jeff, if this is the case, when do you draw your cards? After the first spell you attach? We've always played it that you play Scroll Cache, attach any spells you want for 1 less gold, and once you draw your cards the effect ends. I take it this is incorrect?
No, that's right. You attach as many Spells as you want from your hand, with a 1 Gold reduction on those Spells (and ONLY on those) that lasts until the end of the turn, and then you draw.
Daidoji Rekai Exp 2 / No Hiding Place
While playing my Crane against my friend's Mantis, we came up with an interesting question I'd love to have answered if possible.
No Hiding Place reads, "Reaction: Play before producing a Ranged Attack from exactly one of your attacking cards in the current battle to target a card in the defender's home with the Ranged Attack. The Ranged Attack has -1 strength."
Rekai reads: " Battle: Once per turn, move Rekai into the current battle and have her make a Ranged 3 Attack that cannot combine with other ranged attacks, without bowing."
Could they be used together?
I'd love to answer "yes" to this because it's in the spirit of the cards, but that creates a big timing paradox, since she has to move before she shoots, No Hiding Place can't be used until after she moves, she can only move if she uses her action, and she can't use her action until after No Hiding Place is played. I'm going to rule against it.
Timing question for Terrains for Jeff or Zen.
Based on the current rulings and words in the rule book, and assumming the normal conditions have been met for the Drum of Waters reaction, can the Drum of water's reaction be used in a battle where Deadly Ground has been used?
Also Rule book says this. Since the battle doesn't end until all players pass, players cannot take Open or Battle actions after a Delayed Terrain resolves.
Does this mean that immediate terrains are destroyed as soon as both players pass in a battle because the battle has ended?
The Battle Action Segment ends when both players pass, not the entire battle. Terrains stay in play until either the Resolution Segment ends or a card effect ends the battle without resolution. [GE p. 58]
Deadly Ground prohibits the use of the Drum of Water during resolution.
