question regarding naka tokei

I've got a question regarding Naka Tokei and can't find the answer anywhere. Is there an adress for asking these questions? (I don't want to bother this list too much)

This list is a fine place for questions, but if you really want to, you can email me directly.

Naka Tokei

Unaligned Shugenja. Grand Master of the Elements. Experienced Morito Tokei. Unique Elemental Open: Once per turn, take two consecutive Limited, Battle, and/or Open Elemental actions appropriate to the current phase. Elemental Reaction: Bow Tokei to cancel an Elemental Action.

Does it say: 1. take two consecutive battle actions or 2. take two consecutive elemental battle actions

#2.

Rules question regarding winds...

It has been ruled already that a wind card is a card, and can thus be targetted by things like Isawa's Last Wish.

My question is, when you discard the favor to pay the cost of an action on a wind, is that considered a card effect?

Winds are cards. [FOU rulesheet] Actions on Winds are therefore card actions, and their effects are card effects. Discarding the Favor to use them, however, is not a card effect because it is not an effect -- it is a cost.

Rules question

If your Playing Yasuki Palaces is Otomo's gold cost 4 or 5?

It is equal to the value physically printed on your Stronghold's Gold Production stat area -- the gold coin in the middle. For the Yasuki Palaces, that's 5.

acquiring favor question

I was told recently that to use Acquiring Favor you don't actually need to have the Imperial Favor in the first place. I've always played it that you did because the card refers to satisfying a cost to use the favor but if you never actually had the favor to begin with paying its cost seems irrelevant.

but that may have been a bad assumption on my part. The card text is:

"Acquiring Favor

Political Reaction: Bow your stronghold and play this card to satisfy the cost of using the Imperial Favor"

Thanks!

You do not need to have the real Favor to use Acquiring Favor.

rules questions

1) I am playing Shiro Ide, my opponent is playing Kosaten Shiro. If I were to take control of a Marketplace (that cost 1 for them), would it produce 1 additional Gold when bowed for a Cavalry card?

Shiro Ide checks the current Gold cost of the Holding. It would get Shiro Ide's bonus production.

2) What is the cost of Moneylender? Is it the amount of gold one pays for it, or is it zero, with tokens you can remove to produce gold?

At the time you're paying for it, it's whatever you spend. At all other times, it's 0.

Season of the Scorpion and Q: Importune Kami

***(and now to relevance and beyond!!!)*** Question: can i bow firestorm legion to fuel the Importune Kami engine?

Yes. [GE p. 63] Shugenja Followers can do anything that requires a "shugenja" but does not specifically require a Personality.

Doji Tanitsu question

We've had a recent debate on Kakita Yoshi/Doji Tanitsu and how he works when battles are concerned. I finally had to sit down and read the Presence/Relevance rules to my players - most of whom are still thinking on the old "I can take Open actions with no one present, as long as it doesn't target their cards or province" rules.

Like Zen, I cannot think of a time when the rules ever worked like that.

Because of the Rule of Presence, the Crane players are crying that Tanitsu is worthless because they have to have units at the battle in order for Tanitsu to bow to take the favor.

They do now, just like they always have.

However, my question is this: What of the Rule of Relevance? Is it Relevant to take the favor during such a battle IF Tanitsu is not also Present (which could happen a lot since Tanitsu cannot defend)?

Does it originate from something in the battle? No. Does it target anything in the battle? No. Does it affect anything in the battle or the battle itself? No.

It's not Relevant. It can't be used.

However, before I get killed by all of my Crane players (about 6 in all), I want an official response first. :)

The ruling is the same as it's been for the last seven years or so: Tanitsu cannot take the Favor during battle if he's not in the battle.

Geisha Assassin

May I pay 0 gold for a Geisha Assassin and issue a challenge to another personality or would the geisha "die" because her 0 chi?

The Personality created by doing that would have 0 Chi unless immediately boosted by something like a Fortress of the Dragonfly. At 0 Chi, the Personality dies immediately and the duel is ended without resolution and with no winner or loser.
