--- In, Jeff Alexander 5) Moto Chen again, this time it is a daikyu and an shinjo horsebow, which ranged attacks could Chen make?
He can combine the Daikyu with either of the Horsebow's ranged attacks, for a total strength attack of 5 or 7, depending on whether he bows the Horsebow or himself.
Then I will need a clearer wording on the page 63 rulebook text in italics which reads:
"You cannot combine a ranged attack on an Item with one on the Personality carrying it if the Personality has to bow to make the ranged attack."
Easy. That rule does not apply in this case. Chen does not have a ranged attack ability "on him". They are all on his Items.
(And to clear up the ambiguity in the rule: "the ranged attack" at the very end refers to the one on the Item.)
and the accumulated ruling :
Ranged Attacks may be combined if their sources (i.e., where the action in printed in ink) are on different cards. What card "performs" the Ranged Attack is irrelevent. [JA, 29 March 2002] Note that this does not override the prohibition on combining Ranged Attacks on Personalities and Items when the Personality bows for one of the Ranged Attacks (Dark Allies rulebook, page 63). [ZF, 13 July 2002]
since the wording implies that the Daikyu and Horsebow cannot be combined if the personality bows.
Although I'd agree it interprets the rulebook rule too broadly, it still only addresses the issue of combining an attack on an Item with one on the Personality. Attacks from two Items are different.

Now this begs the question...can you combine the two ranged attacks on the Shinjo Horsebow since they have different costs?
No, because they both come from the Horsebow, and multiple attacks from the same card cannot combine.

It is legal. The rule is very specific: you cannot target your own bowed Personalitied with your own actions. [GE p. 46] This means you CAN:
Target your bowed Followers, Holdings, etc. with your actions. Target someone else's bowed Personalities with your actions. Target your bowed Personalities with other players' actions. Target your bowed Personalities with things that aren't actions.
If I'm not mistaken, you can also target your bowed personalities with actions that straighten them
Correct.
and you can target personalities with actions that don't really target, right?
Right...but then I'd hope that one was obvious.
Two rules questions
Couple of quick questions that don't appear in the rules archive
1. Which takes precenence, sneak attack or naval assault
It's not in the archive because it's straight from the rulesheet.
"If every Personality and Follower in only one army has the Naval trait, then immediately after that battle is chosen for resolution, the Naval army's leader may elect to make the battle a naval invasion."
That's before the time Sneak Attack is played.
Also,
"No player may take actions (including Reactions) or bring cards into play between the start of the Battle Action Segment and the first Battle or Open action opportunity, except for Reactions to that action."
That clearly makes Sneak Attack illegal during a naval invasion, as well as Terrains played through a Scout.
2. Can Muchitsujo redirect an attatchment to the other players bowed people or is that not a legal target, and also can he redirect it from the other players to your own cards, or again is that not a legal target?
Muchitsujo can redirect the attachment to any other Personality that the player could have attached the card to originally. [card text, and GE p. 47] Typically, you won't be able to redirect it to one of the player's bowed Personalities or to someone that player doesn't control.
coming into play..
Hey All
Quick question...
Can a personality react to his own coming into play effects?
In general, yes, although remember that the honor gain for buying an aligned Personality at full price now occurs just before the Personality enters play, so that can't be reacted to by her.
for instance:
Shugenja comes into play, causing an honor loss, can that shugenja cast "the Wind's Truth" in response?
Yes.
couple quick rules questions...
Can you use We Will Have Revenge after refusing an Ia Challenge?
Yes.
Can you also use it after a personalities dies dishonorably? (exp would be Judgement duel)
No. The cause for that loss is a fundamental game rule.
Rules Q: Isawa Nodotai Exp.
Situation...
Battle and it's the Phoenix turn.
Isawa Izumi is facing Hida Shara with Light Infantry, plus various other Crab units. Isawa Izumi would like to perform her range 4 attack... but before she sets a target... Isawa Nodotai Exp performs his reaction (Reaction: Once per turn, before you choose a target for a ranged attack from your cards, allow that attack to target a Personality with Followers.)
Since Hida Shara has a follower, did this now make her a legal target for Isawa Izumi's range 4 attack?
No. Nodotai only lets you break the rule that you can't target a Personality unless it has no Followers.
daigotsu for emperor
I am a proud supporter of daigotsu, I was wondering if after Heavan and earth comes out with daigotsu as a wind if I can change my (no-wind) wins from OP into a support of daigotsu.
I'd think not. If you were allowed to play supporting Daigotsu in those tournaments, it would have been recorded that way in the first place.
mirumoto tachiyama
this guy reads "while opposed by one or more personalities in a battle or duel , he gains a force and chi bonus equal to half the number of cards in the opposing players hand , rounded down "
ok my question is does this add at the begining of a duel and battle and last till the end or does it constantly change as they play cards?
It continually changes.
Rules questions
A tricky one for me at least :
Can you reduce the cost of overlaying an XP version (more thant one rank difference obvoiusly) with cards effect such as Dark Moto Sensei (question was linked with Oni no Okura XP2 on Oni no Okura base)
Dark Moto Sensei would reduce the cost of all applicable versions. It might end up making the overlay cost more or less, depending on which levels were Shadowlands
As far I remember in-Clan reduction doesn't function, so based on that I said no as a tentative ruling.
You don't have that choice because you are not bringing a card into play.
timing of Yu with Ashura...
Here is the situation:
Big attacking army, including 2 Ashura
Not as big defending Army, with 2 Hida Kosho (yu 5)
Defending Army loses. Defender starts whacking guys with Yu. 1st Kosho takes out an Ashura...
What happens???

Booster Draft Issues
As our local store is coming up on its first booster draft, there is a sticking question that has come up. Seeing as, in our booster draft, each person will receive exactly 72 cards (5 boosters, 2 Gold), what happens if an individual is unable to meet the 30 card requirement for one of their decks? If they draft in one direction by as few as 7 cards, they will have 29 cards in one deck. What's worse is that this poor draft will have cut back the number of cards of that type for other players to draft (potentially unbalancing them as well). Please let me know what is the official way to resolve this dilemma.
Caution the players beforehand to make sure they draft enough Fate cards (all their free ones are Dynasty). To any who come sort, give additional proxy Fate cards that have Focus values of 0 and are otherwise completely blank and don't count as any particular type of card.
HLD
Can you use this combo: Play Deadly Ground, then HLDojo to play Great Cimb form under the Armor of Suntao?
No. Honor's Lesson Dojo's effect is to take an extra action, not to destroy Deadly Ground.
Overwhelmed question
I've a question about Overwhelmed that doesn't seem to be answered by the accumulated rulings (but I could be reading it wrong).
If, in the battle, a player's largest unit (or only unit) is bowed, what happens when he plays Overwhelmed? Is it; A. Overwhelmed doesn't target (as it has to be the largest unit) so the unit blows up. B. Overwhelmed has the positive effects, but the player gets to ignore the effect on his unit as he can't target it? C. The destruction of the unit is a cost, and as the player can't target the bowed unit, he cannot meet the cost, and thus can't play Overwhelmed.
D. Overwhelmed targets the player's own highest-Force Personality, always, and cannot be played if no legal target exists for it.
rules again
If I attach a spell to Hoseki, it's no more a spell effect but a ninja Action right?
The actions on a Spell are considered Ninja actions, and its effects are Ninja effects.
Say I attach a spell such as Winds of Change, do the ability to discard a card now comes from Hoseki as a Ninja action? I mean can I copy the ability (Of One Mind or Ninja Shapeshifter for exemple) or is it still the spell?
Still the Spell. These cards cannot copy it. (Furthermore, Of One Mind couldn't copy it anyway, since it can only copy an action printed on the card originally, not one added to it.)
