Range Rules questions

Hi List, I have Akodo maps and I bow it to play higher ground.

Okay...

I use Tsushuru techniques with No Hiding Place.

No, you don't. That's illegal. No Hiding Place says, "Play before producing a Ranged Attack from exactly one of your attacking cards in the current battle". It can't be used in combination with an attack caused by a card from your hand.

And to answer the rest of your question, Higher Ground also only affects ranged attacks that come "from your army", not from things like your hand or Regions.

--- In, Jeff Alexander Each time he focuses, he gets +0 Chi from the focus and -1C from the Bones' effect. At some point, this will kill him.

I hate to drag this one out just a little further, but this does beg the question. Can I still focus knowing that my personality is already at 0 chi?

He dies as soon as he reaches 0 Chi. You have to do this, even if you're the only one who knows his Chi is 0.

And suppose that I later focus a card with a focus high enough to raise the total bonus above the chi penalty?

If his Chi never drops completely to 0, it doesn't matter, and if it does drop to 0, he dies and you don't get a chance to focus larger values later to raise it again.

Also, how would this extend to focussing with Ryokan's Sword?

Okay now, this one will need to go to the Rules Team.

Quiet a lot item and ranged attack questions

1) How is the relation between personalities and attached items?

Sorry, but I don't know what you mean.

2 ) Is an action on an attached item considered to be printed on the personality it is attached to?

No. It is not even considered copied onto the Personality.

3)I assign Shinjo Xushen with a Daikyu attached during infantry phase is the strength of the ranged attack form the daikyu a 3 or a four?

Four. Xushen's trait uses the word "perform", and by the rulebook, a Personality "performs" his Items' actions.

4) I have two Daikyus on Moto Chen, each of them can produce a ranged attack, can I combinine the two ranged attacks?

Yes, since the sources are different cards.

5) Moto Chen again, this time it is a daikyu and an shinjo horsebow, which ranged attacks could Chen make?

He can combine the Daikyu with either of the Horsebow's ranged attacks, for a total strength attack of 5 or 7, depending on whether he bows the Horsebow or himself. He cannot combine the Horsebow's two attacks since they are both coming from the Horsebow -- you can only combine attacks when they all come from different cards. (And since he can't combine the two from the Horsebow, he obviously cannot combine those two PLUS the one from the Daikyu into one ranged 9 attack.)

He can also make each attack one at a time as separate actions, with only one restriction on their order: the Horsebow's ranged 4 has to come before its ranged 2, since the ranged 2 bows the Item and neutralizes all actions written on its card.

6) Can Arrow knows the way, No hiding place and Not another Steps ranged attacks be increased and when how?

None of these prohibit modifying the strength of the ranged attack through Reactions and traits. No Hiding Place cannot be used with a combined ranged attack, since it says the attack must come "from EXACTLY ONE of your attacking cards in the current battle", but the other two can be.

7) Can I move Items and Spells between personalities?

Yes. As a Limited action, you can target and bow two or more of your unbowed Personalities and freely move any and all attached cards among them, provided all new attachments are legal. [GE p. 49]

Um...no. Exile's Road becomes a duplicate when it enters play. It can't be entering play if its costs haven't already been paid -- and, conversely, since it is entering play, adding costs to it NOW wouldn't do any good.

Just to be entirely clear, though, the entering play effects from the copied region WOULD still happen wouldn't they?

Yes, they would.

Yasuki Palaces

Can you still use the Yasuki Palaces for Crane in Open or is it just strictly a Crab stronghold?

It is a Crab-only Stronghold in all tournament formats, by MRP.

Shame Targeting

This came up in a game ... want to make sure the correct ruling was made.

Player A has a dishonored lion samauri in play. He attacks and returns home bowed and still dishonored. On the next turn, Player B wants to play Shame on the dishonored lion samauri.

Is this illegal, because you cannot target bowed cards?

It is legal. The rule is very specific: you cannot target your own bowed Personalitied with your own actions. [GE p. 46] This means you CAN:

Target your bowed Followers, Holdings, etc. with your actions. Target someone else's bowed Personalities with your actions. Target your bowed Personalities with other players' actions. Target your bowed Personalities with things that aren't actions.

Deeds not words rules questions.

Deeds not words reads:

...Until the turn ends, the player gains 1 extra Honor for each duel his or her Personalities win and 1 extra Honor for each opposing card he or she destroys during the Resolution Segment of battle, and whenever the player would gain Honor in another way, the player loses the Honor instead.

Does this "another way" mean: A - Any honor gain not being the standard 2 honor for card destroyed during battle (by rules) and the honor gain stated on the precise duel (by precise card). B - Any honor not earned during resolution phase of a battle or through a duel.

It means A.

I will try to put examples, if "a time of legends" or "pulse of the black finger river" are in play, or if a personality has a "bokken" attached and wins a duel.

All of those become losses instead. The only situational gains that don't turn into losses are those that are clearly described as modifying the battle's or duel's standard Honor gain, such as Battlefield of Shallow Graves and Legendary Victory.

Targeting question

I'm pretty sure I've got this one under control, but I want to double check.

With Show of Good Faith, I can borrow anyone short of joining restrictions.

Correct.

If they're bowed I can still steal them, however when they become mine they will no longer be valid targets for things like the Blood Speaker's Altar or Gensaiken?

Also correct.

If the personalities are illegal, I assume followers are as well.

I don't understand the question, but I'm going to guess at it.

If the Personality is illegal to steal (somehow) with Show of Good Faith, you cannot use it to steal just the Followers instead.

If you steal a bowed Personality, his Followers are NOT illegal targets for your actions that specifically target just Followers, regardless of whether they are bowed. The unit is an illegal target for actions that target a whole unit, though.

Proxy cards

I think some people misunderstood. If I dont like the artwork on Say, Doji Kuruhito XP, but I OWN the card .. and use my home PC, photoshop the card with artwork I like better, and slide that into my deck .. is that illegal ? What would happen in that case ?

Or If I owned a Copy of Say Judgement, and did not want it to get damaged in a tournament through shuffling, and substituted a wakizashi for it in my deck, Having Judgement on Hand .. is that allowed ?

Ultimately, this decision is up to the Tournament Organizer. The standard rule, however, is that proxies are not legal for any reason, in any way, shape, or form, with the sole exception of "X / Soul of X" proxies in Strict Gold games, and we strongly encourage TOs never to allow proxies that have a noticeably different feel, thickness, or weight from standard cards, no matter how lenient they are otherwise.

Armed and ready

Is armed and ready's action like a rally cry, or is it a anti- stand against the waves card?

Armed and Ready is played "at the start of a Resolution Segment." [card text]

Surviving attacking and allied units go home bowed near the end of the Resolution Segment, after the losing side is destroyed. [GE p. 57]

Answer: it is not a Rallying Cry. (I would not say it is only an "anti-Stand Against the Waves card", as it has proactive uses as well.)

Ratling Swarm

Can you bow Kan'ok'ticheck when bringing him into play to reduce another ratling card to "0"? Basically for 4 gold you can bring out two ratling personalities?

You can't bring two cards into play at the exact same time, but, yes, when you buy Kan'ok'tichek, his Reaction is immediately available and can be used while you're still in your Dynasty Phase to bring another Ratling Personality into play for 0 Gold.

answers from the Rules Team

Maybe I missed it, but was there ever an official answer from the rules team on the interraction of Stars Scatter and Jade Arrow?

Yes. The original ruling stands. It's legal and it works, provided you can increase the Jade Arrow's attack strength above 0.

answers from the Rules Team

If Kokujin Exp. gains a Wave Tattoo, he may then only straighten during the targeted player's Straighten Phases.

Does this also apply to someone who has a Wave tattoo and a Spider tattoo ?

Yes.

Hoturi,Toturi,Bayushi Shoju...

I deliberately left out KYD because it's a "what if?" scenario rather than canon storyline material and I wasn't sure if he was alive in that timeline. (Isn't there a card called "Toturi's Grave"?)

Toturi dies by the end of the Thousand Years mini-arc.

Destroy vs Remove

In the case of tokens, are these actions equivalent or different?

For tokens, they're the same.
