Card and rulebook effects

So duels are card effecs AS LONG as a card generated them right?,

Right.

Sacred Gong question. for Jeff

I have heard somebody email Jeff about this so I want clarification from Jeff. Suppose I (the attacker) attack a province with four personalities and three have a sacred gong attached and the other is a 0 force kwanchai. Now for battle purposes the defender decides to play entrapping terrain. The attacker uses all three gongs to lower the province below zero. The attacker then pops the terrain. The attacker has the three personalities get sent home or destroyed. The defender has nobody left to defend.

IIs the province A. Not destroyed, because you need force greater than the province strength of zero to destroy it and the province was never below zero strength. of B. By some magical miracle the zero force of kwanchai is enough to pop the province.

A. No stats go below zero except Family Honor and Honor Requirements [GE p. 31], and an attacking army does not destroy the Province unless the total army Force is above the Province's Strengh. Zero is not greater than zero.

This would also be the question for a battle where the forces tied at zero because of bow outs.

The answer is the same. WHY an army might have 0 total Force makes no difference.

Question on Events for Jeff.

Say I'm playing in a multiplayer game with 4 people, if I'm eliminated do I still have a turn?

Ongoing effects created by an eliminated player continue for their normal durations. This includes ones that wear off on one of their upcoming turns. The effect will end when your empty spot at the table is skipped over.

Another one for you. If I'm playing SLH(or any other) in a 4 player multi and suspicions goes off, Suspicions: For the rest of the game, each player loses 1 Honor after each of your Events Phases. I get eliminated or bow out(quit) and I do have an events phase does the effect of this still work?

The effect still works, although you do not have an actual Events Phase.

If I still have a turn(and events phase) do I have an attack phase, and if so can I declare an attack so I can invite allies for them to attack?

You don't have an Attack Phase.

Wear Him Down Q

*Wear Him Down+Iaijitsu art means that you get an easy 4 honor, mainly because he can not focus again?

Almost never. Wear Him Down cannot be played during Iaijutsu Art if you have already focused, as it would be your second focus, which you can't make. The only way it can give you one more focus than normal is if you played Iaijutsu Art and your opponent was forced to strike due to having no legal focuses.

And what happens when multiple **Wear Him Down are played in react to the same strike?

The "you may draw a card" and "you lose your next opportunity to focus/strike" effects stack. The "opponent must focus if possible" effect does not.

Also in Open, does wear him down give a 4 bonus if you use toshimoko sensei?*

Yes.

Rules question: Recruiting Drive

Card Text: "Limited: For the rest of the turn, you may bring Followers into play from your discard pile. Treat the Followers as being played from your hand."

Some local players have interpreted the "as being played from your hand" clause to mean that once this card is played, all followers sitting in the discard pile can be used for focusing in duels and for the Tactician trait during battle. Is this really the case?

No. All you're allowed to do is bring them into play. [card text]

About Tournaments Question

Can a player change his stronghold or wind during a tournament?

Typically, no.

Ongoing effects of events (inspired by Vengeful Dead....again)

The last sentence of vengeful dead reads: "This event resolves each time it's revealed, for all players".

Now my question is as follows. Is this a) an ongoing effect of the event that allows it to resolve multiple times, and as such would be prevented by anything that ends ongoing effects. b) an effect of the event that occurs each time it is revealed allowing it to resolve.

c) A metagame effect similar to "you may have up to six copies of this card in your deck". The Event does not need to resolve for this text to take hold.
