A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
rules Q: The Anvil's Blessing
If The Anvil's Blessing is used to reveal an Item which you cannot (or apparently cannot) afford, your opponent may still choose to let you attach it. If so, you must pay as much as you can, and if you cannot afford its cost, the Item returns to your hand.

So the question becomes when is card bowed? before or after it enters play?
Neither. In play, the card is in the bowed state. Out of play, it's neither bowed nor unbowed. There is no point at which it changes from unbowed to bowed.

This isn't a new ruling from AEG there was a card called A soul of thunder it works the same way it has always been that way.
This shows my point. As I've only been on the list since September this year, I would never have seen the actual response Jeff (or whoever) gave for A Soul of Thunder, and I hope no one would suggest searching the entire archive every time I have a question to check for precedence...
No one has to search the entire archive for precedents other than myself and my fellow Rules Team members. (And even we don't "have" to. It's just a very, very good idea.) And search for precedents is exactly what I did, which is one of the two big reasons I made the ruling I made. (The other reason is the same reason the original ruling was made: it's a timing conflict, so the active player chooses.)
And as we are apparently now telling other list members what they can and can't post, as you want me to "live with it" and not post my opinion, could you please keep your venomous responses to yourself?
BOTH of you WILL keep these kinds of responses off the list.
And the original reason I had a problem with the "win by last turns BP" is the number of "I didn't think it worked that way, or I would have done something last turn" responses I'm going to get when people lose to it in tourneys I run. I really think it should either say you gain the honor at the end of your opponent's turn (or something similar to cover multi-player games) or that it come after the honor check for winning. I have zero problem with it coming before IToW's check as those are two card effects, not rule effects. Every game is better if it is built off a simple foundation, and this ruling, be it for BP or ASoT, puts a crack in that foundation.
Quite the opposite, sir, quite the opposite! This ruling RELIES on the foundation. The foundation is all the rules that are there before the cards come along and change things. When every card spells out exactly what it does in relation to everything else, without ambiguity, the foundation isn't called upon at all. Boastful Proclaimation is not such card.
Solitary Engagement rules question
If I play Solitary Engagement, and my Personality and an opposing personality go home, and then my opponent accepts and wins the duel, would Be Prepared to Dig Two Graves be legal at this point?
Yes, but the only legal target is the Personality you pulled out of the battle, since that's the only one opposing the one of yours who died.
Armour of the Mountains
Armour of the Mountains includes the text:
"You may not move this Personality into or out of battles with actions."
Does this make the personality an illegal target for Solitary Engagement or Luring Tactics?
No. Those actions are playable, and, furthermore, will only move the other Personality. For Solitary Engagement, there will still be a challenge.
Death by Gifts and Favors (was: Tsuruchi Hiro)
One thing about the MRP...if I don't find it in my deck, can I look in my provs to see if it's there and still play it?
You cannot play it from your Provinces. [card text] In formal play, if you need to verify its presence, either have a neutral person like a judge examine your Provinces or wait for all the cards to be revealed naturally, which should not take longer than your next Events Phase under normal situations.
important question [jeff]
if all my army is naval, and I declare naval invasion, can my oponent use Shiryo no shoju's reaction?
Shiryo no Shoju card text:
"Reaction: Before the Battle Action Segment of a battle containing this unit, name an Open or Battle Action card. While Shiryo no Shoju is in the battle, your opponents cannot play any copies of the card."
Naval Invasion rule #3:
] * No player may take actions (including Reactions) or bring cards ] into play between the start of the Battle Action Segment and the ] first Battle or Open action opportunity, except for Reactions to ] that action.
"Before the Battle Action Segment" is not "between the start of the Battle Action Segment and the first Battle or Open action opportunity". Shiryo no Shoju can still be used.
KYOD Tsukune
Experienced and ExperiencedKYD cards are separate cards. Both may be in a deck, and neither impinges upon the other's uniqueness. (Only one Experience "path" may be in play at a time, however, just as only one copy of multiple Experience levels can be in play at at time.) For overlaying, ignore the KYD completely. [JA, 27 September 2002, 30 October 2002]
As Tsukune Exp 2KYD is not unique, can I have both a copy of her (or three) and a copy of the standard Exp 2 in play at the same time?
Tsukune Exp 2KYD is not Unique. There is no limit to how many copies of her can be in play at once.
