A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I agree with you. That looks legal. I'll see what the Rules Team wants to do about it.
This doesn't seem to follow what you said the paragraph before, Jeff. Doesn't the Veteran Samurai need to be targeted before you start paying Gold for it?
Or is it just that Recruiting Drive declares the discard pile to be equivalent 'as being played from your hand': When it's finally time to take the action, the Samurai are still coming from a legal place?
Playing a card doesn't target that card. You say "I play this Veteran Samurai on Personality X," pay its cost, and then play it on Personality X. It doesn't matter that it's not coming from where it was when you started playing it.

Ah, someone else has been looking at my favorite combo creation device. As a follow-up then, Jeff...
1) Suppose I have Grandfather's Jaw in play. During my events phase, an event goes off which creates an attack phase. During that attack, my opponent plays a kiho and my Grandfather's Jaw copies it. After the attack we continue with the events phase and Blessings goes off. The first kiho played is the Grandfather's Jaw and thus becomes attached. What happens next turn when it turns back into the Jaw? a) Wrong assumption...it never returns to becoming Grandfather's Jaw and remains as the kiho for Blessings purposes. b) It becomes a useless card attached to the personality. c) It becomes a regular attached Grandfather's Jaw that can be used as the Jaw. d) The personality gains the ability of the Grandfather's Jaw and can be returned to your hand when the other player uses an action card. e) Leon, get off my list.
c.
2) Suppose I have a kiho attached to shugenja Bob. Up pops Kitsu Osen. Can he attach the kiho?
Yes.
More to come when FOU comes out...
Leon, get off my list.
"The Deathless"
IMO, the rules change to neuter KSE was the right call
The rules were not changed with the goal of rendering Ki-Rin's Shrine less powerful. The Shrine was not viewed as dominating the environment to the point that it had to be changed to restore fairness.
Rules question - Yodin Sensei
I'm not sure how a couple of cards interact with the current targeting rules and therefore whether or not they're legal under Yodin:
1). Face Me - I think it probably does target your opponent's Personality (under the 4th targeting rule......"all other effects target") but I'm not certain (sorry if this has alreday been answered.....missed it if it was).
Try rule #1: it targets both Personalities because it says so.
2). Ikoma Ken'o - I think he still doesn't target personalities (he has the the magic "ALL opposing units...." phrase) but I'm keen to get some official confirmation before I find him dead and usless in my deck mid-tournament ;)
Ken'o falls under rule #3. His action targets nothing.
superior strategist question
With Superior Strategist, and one tactician in play, can I get a battle action that is considered the tactician's use of his/her ability, and play it?
Not with the same Personality. It wouldn't be legal, being two actions that count as a use of Tactician from the same Personality in one battle.
in search of
i know in search of the future gets rid of sword force but what about other weapons does it knock out a master smith as well
The only reason In Search of the Future affects Celestial / Ancestral Sword Force is that the Sword raises its OWN Force bonus stat before that stat is added to the Personality. It's that first increase that's reduced to 0, not the second. Most Items are not affected by In Search... in this way because most have a static Force stat.
Does Tachi negates other Tachi's?
If a Dragon samurai attaches two Tachi's, does the samurai get the force and chi bonuses from each? Or does each one cancel the other one out? I ask primarily because of the way that the card is worded:
"Negate all Force and Chi bonuses this Personality receives (except focusing) from all sources except Tachi(s)."
Does the (s) indicate all weapons named Tachi, so that two can be attached without problems? Or is this an odd form of possessive - "Tachi's" ?
No, there's still only one possessive in English, and that involves the apostrophe. The "(s)" makes the word plural if necessary, since Tachi isn't Unique and we're well aware that some Personalities can have more than one weapon. Someone with multiple Tachis gains full bonuses from all of them.
Storyline.
Just a thought but if the number of shadowlands cards in a Non-Sl deck count for storyline purposes shouldn't the number of ratling/kolat/ninja/monk cards do the same?
How deck contents affect the storyline is entirely up to whomever is collecting story information for that tournament.
Deadly ground and Armor of Osono-wo
If I play deadly grouds and it resolves then can I use the reaction on the armor
Immediate Terrains stay in effect until the end of the Resolution Segment. [GE p. 58] Something like Deadly Ground, if not destroyed during battle, will prevent all Reactions during (but not after) battle resolution that don't destroy Deadly Ground...including the Armor of Osano Wo.
Question
What is the Chi of the Geisha Assassin before I pay for her or before the duel begins?
Before you pay for her, she doesn't exist. What is the sound of one hand clapping?
"During the challenge and duel", her Chi is half the gold cost you paid for the card, rounded down. That would cover the time immediately before the duel begins.
Same question except now I have a Fortress of the Dragonfly in play?
Whatever she would have otherwise, plus one.
Ratlings in Daimond
Is the Ratling faction going to be in daimond edition?
Yes.
Traveling Ronin question
I have a question about one of the latest previews, Traveling Ronin.
Card Text: You may bring this card into play as an open action. If you do, you may return it to your hand at the end of the turn if it is still in play.
My question is, is the text correct or should it read "You MUST return it to your hand...".
The text is correct...which, by the way, renders an upcoming article I have in the Herald off-target and confusing, since the wording did change during very late playtesting. I'm giving you a heads-up now so you don't interpret the article as errata.
way to cancel reactions????
Does Scorp Distractor work on Political Reactions? How about Naka Tokei canceling Elemental Reactions?
Yes and yes, since Reactions are actions.
