A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
More of a Card related Question.
My question has to deal with the thousand years set. Since the set has came out can we expect anything else possibly in the future dealing with this story? Not just card related, but possibly RPG related as well? Like the Time of Void book.
We're not currently planning anything new along the 1,000 Years storyline...though it's kind of hard not to notice that we purposely left a lot of potential for continuing it at any given time.
Stand Against the Waves Question
OK, someone just brought up a question that none of us can agree on, so I thought I would try for an official answer. Here's the situation:
I attack with 2 units with followers. My opponent defends with 5 peeps without followers. I play Stand. He bows 2 peeps and passes. I play a second Stand. Now, what happens?
A)He bows two more people (my answer) B)He choses to "bow" the two guys who are already bowed since its not his action who's doing the targeting and my actions can target his bowed cards.
He has to choose two more unbowed Personalities to bow.
Yet another Q about Faith.
When exactly should I cancel Flattery with Faith in my clan, can I cancel it after he dicards all his cards or do I have to do it after he plays it and before the discards cards? Can I wait till he discards the last card for Flattery to cancel his last discard?
Not only can you, you must, since discarding those cards is part of the cost of playing Flattery. [card text]

So then Toku would commit seppuku before the "dishonor Toku" effect occurred, right? The 7 pt loss happens before the dishonoring, as it is printed first on the card.
Yes, though it shouldn't matter. Seppuku also negates any dishonoring to the Personality coming from the same source as the honor loss. I *thought* this was in the Dark Allies rulebook. Apparently I'm mistaken.
Ide Michisuna would be why it could matter, as he negates the re-honoring effect of seppukku, and Toku's controller would lose 2 honor.
Not if Toku is already dead and in the discard pile, which is the case if Toku seppukus when the action first targets him or when the honor is lost.
Example to Jeff: Faith vs Rallying
Sorry Jeff, but your last post not explain nothing to me.
1- the criterion for playing Faith In My Clan is to have a clan champion of my faction in my army. Is IRRELEVANT that my army is an attacking or defending army. Right?
The card says nothing about attacking/defending. Right.
2- Example: -I'm DEFENDING province A with my clan champion, province B under attack. NO MORE PROVINCES. -Attacker resolves A (where I'm defending). Both pass. After resolving, my clan champion remain in the province A until the entire Attack Phase ends. -Attacker resolves B (the last province). Both pass. Province destroyed. The other player plays Rallying Cry
THE BIG QUESTION: May I cancel this Rallying Cry with Faith in my clan?
Jeff could you give your answer? (and explain it)
Yes, because you have an army with an aligned Clan Champion in it at Province A.
Question
Can either of the following two actions be played with Iaijutsu Art?
Strike of Flowing Water Text:When you focus this card, double the Focus value of the next card you focus in this duel. Reaction: When one of your Personalities would focus, instead discard all cards focused by both Personalities'controllers for the duel and negate the discarded cards' effects.
Another Time Text:When you reveal this card as a Focus card for a duel, cancel the duel and discard all Focus cards without effect.
Iaijutsu Art Text:Limited: One of your Personalities issues an unrefusable challenge to a Personality with equal or higher Chi. Each Personality focuses exactly once, if possible, and Reactions taken "instead of focusing" cannot be taken. The winner's controller gains 4 Honor. Dishonor the loser.
The key point is whether you're actually focusing or taking a Reaction instead of focusing. The first is legal, even if extra effects are produced. The second is not.
Strike of Flowing Water may not be played for its Reaction. Both Strike of Flowing Water and Another Time may be focused, and both produce their appropriate extra effects -- though there will almost certainly be no second focus value for SoFW to double.
