A Test of Courage can only be played in response to an action that is immediately sending a card out of the battle, not, for instance, a duel action that sends the unit out of the battle if personality looses a duel. Correct? Or can the player react after the duel is lost?
The Gold Edition changed the wording of A Test of Courage so that it can be played at any time an action is sending one of your units out of the current. It can be used even if your unit is removed late in the action's effects.
Seiko no Shiryo.
The Ancestor's reaction can be her attached personality if bowed.
Yes.
Based on partially on: Reactions to an action targeting one of your Personalities typically do not target your Personality in addition to the original action. [Reversal, JA, 4 April 2002]
The main question her is does Seiko ever target the challenged Scorpion Personality, and does it matter if the Scorpion is bowed?
No and no.
Cacnceling
1.
Skeleton Troops does a fear 2 to an opposing unit containing a Ijiasu with an attached Farmer Tocken. Ijiasu's controller reacts to the fear and bows a Ikoma Tsai and plays Flee the Farkness.
2.
The Maw uses its Tactician ability to send home an opposing Ijiasu. Ijiasu's controller plays test of courage cancelling that actions.
Question:
When you cancel an action it was as if the action never happened, but cost still were paid. So by canceling fear in [1] could the Skeletons Troops just use their fear again as there next action since it didn't occur because of being cancelled? Or is the use of Fear for that turn considered a cost?
Restrictions such as "once per battle" are not costs. The Skeletons could try using their Fear action again later that battle.
Under the same question, how would that work with Tactician?
The same way.
No Hiding Ranged [Was Date: Wed, 2 Oct 2002]
Don't forget, however, that the shugengas who bowed to use IK cannot assign to a battle, and are therefore legitimate targets for NHP.
But the spell has been cast, By killing the shuggy, does that reduce their province strength or does the spell stay in effect despite the caster being cacked?
Once the spell is cast, its bonus does not change.
quick question about Honor's Lesson Dojo....
Checked the errata on this and just want make sure.
HLD can be canceled by Fall on your Knees right?
Right. Honor's Lesson Dojo is used before Delayed Terrains resolve [card text], which is still during the Battle Action Segment [BB rulesheet].
Question for Jeff Alexander concerning Daidoji Rekain and Not Another Step?
First, this is taken from the online rules archive: Daidoji Rekai (Experienced 2) Reads, "Daidoji Rekai 4F/4C 0HR 11G 3PH Crane Clan Archer. Daidoji Daimyo. Samurai. Cavalry. Experienced 2. Unique. Battle: Once per turn, move Rekai into the current battle and have her make a Ranged 3 Attack that cannot combine with other ranged attacks, without bowing." [MRP, Gold Edition, 1 July 2001] May use her ability if she is in the current battle (i.e., she may shoot without moving, but cannot move without shooting). [JA, 11 January 2002] If she is not in the current battle when she begins her action, actions that require a card be in the battle (e.g., Not Another Step, No Hiding Place) cannot be used. [JA, 20 June 2002; ZF, 12 July 2002]
Here's the text of Not Another Step: Reaction: Play before one of your personalities with 3 or greater chi performs a range attack. This ranged attack may target a card in an unresolved adjacent battle.
I can see why No Hiding Place is not usable if she's not in the current battle, because it says that the personality has to be in the battle. Now, why can't Not Another Step be used? There's no condition on it indicating that the range attack needs to be coming from the current battle. The condition for the card is that it must come from a 3 chi personality. Check. Why can't Rekai move into the current battle, and perform a range 3 attack against someone in a neighboring province?
Here was my reasoning on the matter. I admit the result is not intuitive, and I'll take it up with the Rules Team for review:
Not Another Step changes how you're allowed to target Rekai's action. That means it must be played before her target is chosen, which is before she moves. If Rekai is in your home, she has no "adjacent battle". Likewise, if she is in a different battle, her new target must be adjacent to where she is right now, not adjacent to the current battle.
Also, if there is no defender in the province, is it legal to use her battle ability to move into the battle without a legal target for her range attack?
No. Never has been. A targeted action cannot be taken if no legal target exists. [GE p. 46]
