Just a silly question...if my opponent focuses a 1 while the Dark Ring of Fire is in play for me, is their focus now 0 or -1?
0. Stats other than Family Honor and Honor Requirements can't go below 0. [GE p. 31]
Thanks, but the next sentence says 'don't disregard excess penalies, though.'
I didn't forget it. It doesn't matter in the situation you proposed. The Focus Value of the card starts at 1, and you're subtracting 2. That gives you 0. Now, if you're doing something else to try raising that Focus Value back up (Snow Crane Tattoo), then that rule would matter. But you didn't mention anything.
Someone dueling against me while I have the Dark Ring of Fire in play focuses a 2, 1, then 3. Dark Ring of Fire makes them total 1 (0,0,1) or 0 (0,-1,1)?
1 (0, 0, 1).
L5R-CCG-Digest V2002 #684
Hi there,
The text on toritaka kitao says "actions that would dishonor kitao are cancelled". Losing the duel causes kitao to be dishonored but The text prevents that, or doesn't it? That's why I'm wondering If anything is being cancelled...
Toritaka Kitao cancels the action from the point where it dishonors her. She is not dishonored. The winner does not gain honor. There is no longer a duel. The Ring of Fire cannot be played.
post for 30 September 2002 followup / Dark Ring of Fire question
Just a silly question...if my opponent focuses a 1 while the Dark Ring of Fire is in play for me, is their focus now 0 or -1?
0. Stats other than Family Honor and Honor Requirements can't go below 0. [GE p. 31]
So if I Retired Wasp General a Range 1 attack that is targeting my 0 Force personality, my personality is still going to die because the range attack meet or exceded my personalities force?
Correct.
i am probabl;y not to pose this question but why are the following actions not political actions Shame, Remorseful seppuku, and marries a barabarian?
None of them had the "Political" trait when they were first printed, and none of them meet the definition that would also make a card "Political" that existed from the Shadowlands expansion up to (but not including) Gold Edition.
In Time of War ruling
When players are removed from the game their events continue, this means that the cap is still in effect.
Same goes for suspicions the only difference is that since they player who was eliminated will never have a events phase, therefor you never lose the one honour.
We found this in the rulebook.
Your first point is in the rulebook, but the second isn't, and past FAQs have said that periodic effects that happen during eliminated players' turns continue to happen. That Suspicions should have kept going.
Follow-up question for Jeff
There is no gain to steal. "Dishonored Personalities cannot bring Honor to their family, including through battles and duels." [GE p. 60]
Furthermore, according to page 61, if Dishonored Personalities die and gain honor at the same time, they are restored to honor first. There is no loss due to dishonorable death either in this case.
Does that address all your issues?
Nearly, but not quite. This says the death in battle resolution and the honor gain are simultaneous. So what about my second question:
Can I use a Wind's Truth to take the honor gain from battle resolution if I am using a Shugenja with the Celestial Sword attached and he only has Chi high enough if you include the personlities being destroyed.
Yes.
Actually, this points out a conflict in the rulebook. Page 56 says the destruction happens before the honor is gained
Cascading Fire
Just a question: What is the real wording of Cascading Fire? I don't have the card right now, but when I consulted two search engines, they showed different results.
A. [...]
B. Elemental Battle:Bow this Shugenja for a Ranged 6 Attack. Elemental Battle: Bow this Shugenja for two consecutive Ranged 3 Attacks that cannot be combined. Elemental Battle: Bow this Shugenja for six consecutive Ranged 1 Attacks that cannot be combined.
That one.
If the answer is B, what's the purpose of the phrase "cannot be combined"?
You can't produce other Ranged Attacks from other cards in the same unit (like Spearmen or Archers) and add them to Cascading Fire's. (Normally, you would be able to.)
Can it be modified by Spearmen or Arrows from the Woods?
No and yes. Arrows From the Woods does not combine -- it modifies the original ranged attack's strength.
Sorry if this has been asked before. Can't find it in the archives. (Or I just don't know how to search properly.) Thank you very much.
It won't be in the archives. Combining ranged attacks is described in the rulebook.
Rules Meta-question
No, this isn't a rules question about Meta, it's a meta-question about rules. :)
I asked a question earlier this week (and also about two weeks ago) about the Palace of Fu Leng playing Political action cards and haven't seen an answer yet. It's entirely possible that you did answer the question and I just missed it (if so, then I'd appreciate someone pointing me to the answer) and it's also possible that the question is something that got kicked up to the Rules Junta for review and possible erratta (since I'm pretty sure that you guys didn't intend for a Palace of Fu Leng player to be able to play political action cards even if it does appear to be legal to do so after the Broken Blades Rules sheet).
A third possibility is that you didn't see the question because you've been swamped with work and missed it in the zillion+ emails that have gone through L5R-CCG in the last two weeks.
There is a fourth possibility: we haven't been answering questions about 1,000 Years of Darkness yet because most of them are still being generated based on the text in previews and fan-built spoiler lists.
Is there a tag that you would like us to put on Rules Questions that we would like you to answer?
Not particularly. As long as you don't hide your question deep in an otherwise non-rules-related post, I should see it.
In time of war vs Revealing the Bastard
Well , if in time of war is in play and in my event phase i reveled "revealing the bastard"
and my opponent have an acumulated 10 honor in the void , then can he gain that honor OR my opponent dont gain that honor?
The upper limit is immediately lifted. For instance, if he had started the turn at 12 and he has gained 10 so far this turn (which is hard, considering it is still only your Events Phase), he will now have 22 Family Honor instead of 17. This is not considered a new gain.
can i assume that my opponent always is gaining that honor but the event " in time of war" is always stopping it?
In Time of War puts a limit on what his total Honor can be. It does not negate or change any of the gains he receives that turn.
then can i react with the WoT in any moment of the game to take that excess of honor???
The only legal time to cast The Wind's Truth is when the gain or loss initially occurs. [card text + GE rulebook p. 48] This has nothing to do with any Events.
Question
Kolat Infiltrator Reaction: Play immediately after any holding has been bowed to negate the effect of that holding.
Can I target my own holding with this card to cancel a gold production? or is it too late by the time I bow my holding as I cannot target my own bowed cards?
You can't target your own bowed PERSONALITIES. Targeting your bowed Holdings is not a problem.
GenconUk 18 players
Just wondering if you could clarify the Time of War ruling...did I read it right, that if I start my turn on 10 honor, opponent on 17, I can go up to 18 honor, grab the favor, and then drop to 15 at then end of my go..?
No. You can't go higher than 15. If you start at 10, gain 8, and then lose, say, 2, you're still at 15, not 13. Your upper limit of 15 does not reduce the 8-point gain to a 5-point gain. The latest ruling only means that at the end of the turn, you STAY at 15 -- you don't jump to 18 because the cap of 15 has been lifted.
Question for Jeff A.
Does Draw them out work vs. walking the way, Naseru's strength, superior strategist, Imperial gift, and other cards which allow a player to get a card from his/her fate deck instead of specificially drawing a card off the top of his/her deck?
Draw Them Out works against draws only. Nothing else.
No Hiding Ranged [Was Date: Wed, 2 Oct 2002]
I've found some interesting crack, as far as i knew you had to declare whether you were helping the defender or the attacker as an ally. I went to a convention recently and they said no, that you didnt know whether they were going to help defend or attack until you assigned.
This is a common point of confusion. Unfortunately, it's so prevalent that even clarifying it in the rulebook [p. 51] doesn't often help.
