A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Season of the crab poster
Is there an official release date for 1kyod?
There is no release date since it's not a retail product. However, we expect to start shipping it in late September or early October.
Revealing the rings...
Can someone explain to me the new "Will of" cards in broken blades. The text says:
Kiho Elemental Open: Bow one of your shugenja or Monks, remove this card from the game, and reveal the ring of air from your hand if you don't have it in play. For the rest of the turn, you may not use any actions on a spell or kiho card more than once per turn, and your personalities do not need to bow to cast spells or kihos.
What does this mean? should the text have said put the ring of air into play? Maybe someone can explain this a little better.
You either have to have the Ring in play already or show that you have it in your hand.

Say I cast a Wind's Truth or Purity of Spirit using Kaelung. Could my opponet react to this by playing investigation?
The traits of an action are only those of the card that the action is written on. [p. 34]. The Wind's Truth is merely a Political Kiho action, no matter who casts it.
Just to confirm, if a Blessings of Isawa kicks in, would it then be a Kolat action?
Yes, because then it would be on the Personality.

The Stronghold ability can still be used.
How is this so?
Past precedent that the Dark Path of Shadow overrides all card effects that try to render it illegal or unusable.
So, "You can do this ... in a battle in which you cannot perform actions," applies even when this action is the only one prohibited?
Yes.
Political (card text). If a Shadowed Tower of the Shosuro player is fielding Shukuen, does this qualify for the 'after playing a Political Action card' trigger to reshuffle the Kiho into the fate deck?
Um... Yes, since it makes the action Political, not just its effects.
Er, the Action becomes Political, but it's the Action Card which is reshuffled, and that's not Political.
DA rulebook p. 33, third item: a card is a "Keyword" card if it is an Action card and one of its actions has the "Keyword" trait.
post for 22 August 2002 (Revisiting Shukuen)
Does the 8/22 ruling on the interaction of Kihos cast by Shukuen with Shadowed Tower override the one made on 8/13?
Yes.
Were you refering to something else on the 13th besides the recycling of Limited Kihos made political with Shukuen?
AH! Now I know why I'm so confused. I've been mixing up Tamori Shukuen rulings with Tamori Hiroko rulings. :( Sorry for the chaos.
Question about FAQ
I am reading through the accumulated rulings, and it shows many cards from Gold being reprinted in later sets (APC, AOF, etc). However, I cannot see any difference between the card text shown in the FAQ and the text on my Gold cards. So what makes the card an MRP in a later set? Just because it was reprinted - even though all the text is exactly the same?
Generally, you'll only see the term "MRP" brought up if there was an actual change to the wording of the card, as happened with Counterattack and with Fire and Air.
Unaligned in BB [Jeff, Dave] (question)
yes why did the shadowlands personalities not have unaligned printed on them?
Because, aligned or not, they are "working for" one of the major Factions in the game.
do they still count as unaligned.
No.
they have no alignment, unless you decide to make shadowlands one?
Correct. But then, they had no alignment before, too.
does katsu/ garen still count as unaligned for toturi's shrine or wave men?
Toturi's Shrine, no. The Wave Men, yes.
Clarification Question
Ok, I've gotten two different answers on this from multiple sources I'd consider reliable.
Opponent is playing an Asako Tower deck. Five shugenja on the table, one samurai with Heavy Infantry, Sword, and Isawa's Last Wish. He attacks I play In Search Of, he uses ILW to target a personality. I target his samurai. He cancels it with a shugenja.
Now I've heard this is completely legal from one group of people, but I've also heard that using Asako's power to cancel the targeting, would cancel all of it, meaning my targeting. At least I think.
What's the deal?
DA rulebook p. 45: "If a card or action is canceled after it has produced some effects, do not undo those effects." The card your opponent destroyed with the Wish does not come back to life if the Wish's action is canceled by the Asako Towers when you pick the second target.
