post for 16 August 2002

Jeff Alexander, sent 17 August 2002 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

(AEG) Gateway

Any chance we could get the schedule of events for Gateway? Its only a little over 2 weeks away.

We're still trying to finalize it. It should be ready next week.

BB release?

What is the official BB release? I just got notification from Potomac that my order has shipped...and the only thing I have ordered is BB. So is the 15th going to be the release date?

It's Monday, August 19th.

overlaying cards and lady moon's curse

I have a question about abilities gained by overlaid personalities from their less experienced version. If i have, for example, Yasuki Hachi in play and overlay Yasuki Hachi exp over him he gains the "Reaction: Once per turn, when Hachi wins a duel, straighten your Stronghold." abilitiy. now, if my opponent plays Lady Moon's Curse, which states: "Kiho Open: Bow one of your Shugenja or Monks to permanently remove all abilities from a Personality that are not printed on that Personality." does my Hachi exp lose the reaction abilitiy granted from his non-exp version since that ability isn't printed on the Hachi exp card?

Yes.

Question on Make Your Choice

I'm looking for a clarification on the wording of this card. It may seem inane, but I can see someone interpreting it weird. Here's the text:

Open: Give one of your bowed or unbowed Personalities without your Faction trait, the Unaligned trait, or the Shadowlands trait +1F/+1C permanently and straighten that Personality, if necessary. The Personality swears fealty to you and permanently loses other Faction alignments.

The way it's worded and w/ my understanding of grammer (which is by no means perfect), it looks like the wording implies:

"...without your Faction trait, (without) the Unaligned trait, or (without) the Shadowlands trait..."

That's the way it works.

Now, with the flavor of the card, I'm sure it's *supposed* to mean

Don't be so sure. :)

Hitomi Hogai question

Re-asking this question since questions on BB cards are now being answered.

If Hitomi Hogai has a tattoo, could I move Gaijutsu no Shiryo (with tattoos attached) to Hogai?

Yes.

And if so, can Hogai use those tattoos?

No. If he already has a Tattoo, Gaijutsu cannot give him a second one.
