"Discarded" question

Hello there,

can someone (hopefully official) give me a definition of the term "Discarded". Now this is not "Discarded from play" just plain old "Discarded".

Now, under the description of Kiho's it says "Like Actions, you play Kiho's from your hand and then discard them." Implying that standard Action cards (non-attached) are also "Discarded" after being used (eg. Charge, etc.).

Is this correct? Are Fate Cards considered to be Discarded after use ?

Hmm. No. "Discarded" generally means going to the discard pile without being formally played. (In the case of cards already in play, "discarded" means going to the discard pile without counting as being destroyed.)

The question is based upon Tamori Hiroko's ability : Reaction: After you discard a card from your hand, bow Hiroko to draw a card. (This includes Focus cards, but not until the duel ends.)

So, the question should really be, does using an Action card constitute discarding it from your hand?

No.

The answer probably is (certainly seems to be) a "No", BUT take a Duel for example - with Focus cards you _Play_ them from your hand, and then Discard them _after use_ - hence Hiroko's trigger.

Focus cards aren't "played", according to the Dark Allies rulebook.

Reintroducing the Clans

What IS the difference between a Unicorn army and a Mantis army, right now. Never mind the Naval trait - Naval is just ersatz Cavalry.

I have to admit I'm rather perplexed by this statement.

Koku Offer

Sorry to hijack the thread, but can someone tell me where I can get the very latest list of cards on the Koku Redemption?

Since I live overseas (Malaysia) by the time my Herald gets to me, I fear it may be outdated. The list on the webpage seems outdated as well.

The web page and latest Herald combined are the total list of what we are officially offering for Koku at any given time.

Question on Mushin + Blackened Sky

If I play Mushin, then in the first action play Blackened Sky: Is the first Ranged Attack considered as the second action of Mushin or can I play then (after the ranged attacks) another action, let´s say Stand Against the Waves?

Blackened Sky gives you a brand new set of extra actions that happen after Mushin's first extra action but before its second. You still get one action after Blackened Sky ends.

Counterattack question

<snipedy snip> other player will have the opportunity to react, but when it'll be your turn to react again (remember the reactions sequence only end when ALL the players have passed in a row) you'll be able to play a second Counterattack.

Except you will not, as you are allowed to play each printed instance of a reaction once per trigger, and you already played Counterattack (as I think I mentioned in my first post). As can be seen in the rulebook (DA, page 48)

The second Counterattack is not the same printed Reaction. It can't be -- it's on a different card. Multiple identically-worded Reactions ARE legal, provided they come from different cards.

Legacy clans

One of the reasons for not making the minor clans playable was "...it would lead to issues of balance, appropriate levels of support, "we should get a 'season of' kit", clan letters, etcetera." If this is not a big problem with Ratling why would it be with other minor clans

It's a matter of degree. We can't just "keep adding one more". The extra work is NOT negligible and it WILL add up.

Dishonoring and Enlightenment

I do not really know the rules for the new gold edition and I was wondering what are dishonoring and enlightenment?

Enlightenment is an instant victory. It's achieved by getting all five Elemental Rings into play. Dishonor is an alternate way of eliminating an opponent -- players instantly lose and are removed from the game if their Family Honor reaches -20 or lower.

Neither of these are new to Gold Edition, by the way. They've been with the game from the start.

Printed abilities question...

Are Yu and Tactician abilities considered abilities printed on the card? Or are they considered something akin to Tattoos in the fact that their ability isn't printed on the card?

Yu and Tactician aren't abilities at all. They're just traits. The presence of the Tactician trait on a Personality allows that Personality to perform a certain Battle action, but that action is not possessed by that Personality and it's not treated as being on his or her card. Yu is similar, although its effects aren't even actions.

Fortifications and Presence

I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but I'm just making sure. Do you need a personality or Garrison at a province to use an ability on one of your fortifications such as Bridged Pass or Edge of the Shinomen Forest?

There are no special rules on Fortifications or on Regions that make their Battle and Open actions immune to the Rule of Presence. You need a unit (or Garrison) there.

A few questions i would like clarification on if possible

1. If Moto Gheris is in an army attacking me, can i attatch a spell using Kyuden Agasha as an open or is that considered playing an action card

You're using a Stronghold action to put a Spell card into play. That doesn't even come close to "playing an Action card". It's legal.

2. Does having courtier cards like scorpion courtiers or master courtier count as having a courtier in play for cards that require a courtier in play?

A "courtier" is any card with the word "courtier" in its title or boldface traits area. [p. 33] Yes.

3. Does naka tokei's ability to produce two consecutive elmental actions during the approriate phase mean you can play two limited elemental actions on another players limited phase or that you can do two consecutive elemental limiteds on your phase without anyone else getting an open

You can do two in a row without anyone else getting any (other than Reactions, of course) between them. They must both be of a type you can use at the current time, though -- you can't take two Limited actions, or one Limited and one Open, unless it's your own Action Phase.

Question about Judgement of Toshiken

If I play Judgement of Toshiken, does that stop Kharmic Strike from rendering the duel a tie?

Yes.

Question concerning the legality of cancelling actions...

Suppose I am using the Asako Towers stronghold. I have a shugenga in the battle with an Isawa's Last Wish attached. If I activate the Wish, and destroy an opposing personality, and the opponent chooses to target my shugenga to destroy, is it currently legal to cancel the action with the stronghold, thus destroying the opposing personality, but not losing my shugenga.

From what I understand, it is legal, but I don't think it should be. On page 45 of the Dark Allies rulebook, it says the following: "If a card is destroyed after all costs (if any) of its effects have been paid but before all its effects resolve, all remaining effects still occur." Based on the wording of this, it looks like you can,

This has nothing to do with the Isawa's Last Wish/Towers of the Asako ruling. Nothing is being destroyed before all its effects resolve. I'm afraid I don't understand your point.

but what I have a problem with is the timing on when it's legal to cancel an action.

When it's legal to cancel an action depends on one thing and one thing only: the wording of the Reaction that's doing the canceling.

The ILW/TotA situation works the way it does because the Wish targets and destroys the opposing card before the "retribution" target is chosen, and the Towers can't cancel the Wish's action until that second choice is made.
