Rules for 13 July 2002
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Greetings,
Rules for 12 July 2002
It depends on whether the Personality has to bow to perform his own Ranged Attack. If not, there shouldn't be a problem.
Archive, General rules, Ranged Attacks: "Ranged Attacks may be combined if their sources (i.e., where the action in printed in ink) are on different cards. What card "performs" the Ranged Attack is irrelevent. [JA, 29 March 2002]"
[T]his seems to be in conflict with the Rulebook pg 63.
So it does. The Dark Allies rulebook was printed before the Archive entry, however. Still... the Archive entry doesn't explictly override the rulebook. I'm going to backtrack to the rulebook entry.
That said, the rulings concerning actions on cards attached to bowed Personalities has been in a bit of flux lately, thanks to Asako Yuya. Here's yet another one Jeff may want to revisit.
But [Daidoji Rekai Exp 2 + Not Another Step] is legal if she is at a battle and adjacent to the battle in question?
Yes.
Isawa Izumi related question
If a personality card says it "will only attach Fire Spells", is that purely a limitation of the traits of Spells it will attach, or does that mean it can't attach anything other than Fire Spells, ie, no Items, Ancestors, Followers, etc?
I don't think that's ever come up before.
A quick text search reveals several cards worded that way. E.g., Ninja Shapeshifter ("only attach Ninja Followers"), Otaku Kamoko, Experienced ("only attach Cavalry Followers"), Orschat ("only attach Goblin Followers"). In all cases, I've never heard of anyone who argued that those were the *only* card types those Personalities could attach. Goodness knows I've seen enough Ancestral Swords and Armors of Earth on Otaku Kamoko.
Treat "will only attach [Keyword] [Card type]" as meaning, "[Card types] this Personality attaches must be [Keyword]." This is a tentative ruling for now; Jeff Alexander may have other ideas about the phrasing, or how some specific cards work.
A question
Isawa Taeruko (3chi) is declared to be my Doji Kurohito's (inexp, 4Chi) nemesis. Can Taeruko now I. Art [Kurohito]?
Yes; it's one of the best Ring of Fire combos out there. The Chi bonus doesn't apply until the duel is on, and Iaijutsu Art only cares about the Chi of the recepient when challenged.

How can I order this set? [1,000 Years of Darkness]
There's an order form in the latest Herald (Vol. 2, #4). About 200 cards -- a complete playset -- for $99.95, plus shipping and handling.
