Rules for 10 July 2002
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Greetings,
good web pages?
does anyone know of any good CURRENT L5R web pages other than the official one?
May I suggest Steel and Iron? Features lots of strategy articles (notably the Zen's Card of the Week archive), an archive of Gold-era fiction, checklists, artist contact info, and more. It even rated a listing in the L5R Experience! Hoody-hoo! It's here:

May one play Mushin when one has no units in a battle?
Sure. But the following actions are bound by all the normal restrictions.
if you cannot pay a card's cost it goes back where it came from.
Incorrect. Archive, General Rules, Costs: "If a cost for an action cannot or will not be paid, the action is canceled. [JA, 25 January 2002]"
I would like to be clear on why Revering the Past causes you to discard an Ancestor you grab when you do not attach it to a Personality[...]
Archive, General rules, Search: "Any time a card is retrieved from any deck with instructions to play it immediately, if the card is not playable, it is discarded. [JA, 27 November 2001]"
[...] and whether or not you must attach an Ancestor once you get one (if you had a Personality in play that could attach it).
The grammar is a little fuzzy on this one, but I'm going to say that if you get the Ancestor, you must attach it if you can. That's consistent with prior rulings. You need not search for an Ancestor in the first place, however.
I have two copies of Ring of the Void in play. Based on the MRP of the card, I conclude that I can draw nine cards during my End Phase, total, if my hand is empty.
Sure.
Questions
[Re: Snowy Fields]
The actions here only refer to Battle and Open actions, right?
No. Action = "Limited," "Open," "Battle," "Reaction."
A canceled action does not count towards the number of actions taken, right?
Correct, as it "never happened."
Does passing count toward the limit?
No. It's not an action (see first answer).
actions like Mushin and Superior Strategist + other actions count as separate actions. So it means each one adds up to the limit, right?
Correct.
[Re: Flattery]
When can he cancel Flattery: after the opposing player plays the Action card or after he discards enough cards?
Discarding is a cost of playing Flattery, so that must happen first for the action to be attempted legally.
Rules Question
If two personalities duel and one has a Taijikku [...] and that personality used the Open action before the challenge/duel can the other personalities controller refuse the challenge and use The Winds Truth to redirect the honor lose to the player with the Taijikku equipped personality? Also, same question for Kakita Rensai and during the effects of the event Tsukune's Choice.
Archive, General rules, Duels: "Everything that occurs after a challenge is accepted is "during a duel." [JA, 7 November 2001]" Honor gains are effects of the action initiating the duel, so they can't be futzed by Reactions if Reactions are forbidden.
Questions
Um now Reactions count as actions.
"Now?" They always have been actions, from Day One until now, without exception.

Um the ring isn't unique so you could have 3 of them in your deck right?
Incorrect. Dark Allies rules, page 20.
