Zen Faulkes, sent 9 July 2002 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Greetings,

n00b question

When you move a unit "into" and "out of battle", what does that mean? Like, where does the unit go and does it stay there until certain conditions are met?

The unit goes wherever the card text specifies, and it stays there until (a) it moves elsewhere, (b) the battle is over, or (c) the Attack Phase is over.

Hida Tokichiro

So yes [Tokichiro] IS technically a second turn possibility, for Yasuki Palaces!

Can be done in any Crab stronghold, but it require the right combos and a little luck; there's at least four ways to do it. It is a little easier with Yasuki Palaces; there's at least six ways to do it.

Rules for 7 July 2002

am I considerd to be paying for a Samurai when I declar I will buy him, or when I bow a Gold producinh holding.

First, you announce that you are trying to pay a card. Then, you try to meet its cost in whatever way you can. Net result is that Hiruma Dojo can be used on its own.

kolat master issue (Jeff, Zen, Deputy?)

Does Kolat Master: ignore the "will only join X Clan" trait of Matsu Nimuro, Togashi Hoshi etc.?

No. See Dark Allies rulebook, Glossary, "join," page 73.

count as "bringing a personality into play" for the purposes of attaching an ancestor (if you have an appropriate one)? for other purposes?

No to both.

Rules Question [Zen]

In the archive, regarding In Search of the Future: [snip text re: Celectial Swords] Is this not slightly in error?

Nope; right as rain. The effect originates from where it is physically written in ink.

Plains of Otosan Uchi/Salt the Earth Question

[Plains of Otosan Uchi destroyed by Salt the Earth]

From the Rules Archive: "If the Region is destroyed directly, no honor is lost and the Region's controller must discard one of the two Dynasty cards of his choice. [DW, 3/6/97]"
