Rules Question about Rain of Emeralds

Honored Rules Guys -

Regarding the event Rain of Emeralds:

"All human Courtier Personalities in play gain +2 Personal Honor and the ability "Political Limited: Bow to gain 1 Honor." until the start of your next turn."

When paying full for human courtiers from your clan during your Dynasty phase, do they have +2 Personal Honor which you gain (per ruling on Yojiro Experienced 2 and Ki-Rin's Shrine Experienced)while the Emeralds are Raining since the event applies "until the start of your next turn."

No. That's not the Event's duration, that's how long those bonuses and abilities last. Rain of Emeralds applies one time only, only to Courtiers in play when it resolves. Ones brought into play later that turn are unaffected.

This is a REVERSAL of Zen's original ruling. Sorry, Zen.

Koku Cards and Other Customer Service Matters

Wow, my brother and I sent out a combined 1200 in koku orders close to a month ago, yet you recieved your order within a week?

To the people at AEG is there anyway to confirm that an order was actually recieved? Just curious.

The best way to track this sort of thing on your end is to send your order via some mechanism like Certified Mail.

Question- Battle Maidens

In a message dated 5/15/2002 5:01:14 PM Eastern Standard Time, writes:

Question about the Followe- Battle Maidens.

When Battle Maidens are attacking, does the +1 force apply to all Battle Maidens or just the follower itself?

In my area at least it applies to all. It just says Battle Maidens. It doesn't put any restrictions.

It's referring to itself by title, as do many other cards. When a card does that, it's only talking about itself.

Seattle Kotei Tourney Report

The top placing Dragon player, Jamie Tachiyama won the "best L5R accessory" award for his dog Trevor. If you recall from some of my earlier reports, Jamie is blind. He went to the top 8 with a Dragon duelling deck.

Fascinating. I'm really curious...how does this gentleman play?

Quite well.

Question: Way of Death..

Way of death has two separate actions on it. the second which increases the stregth of a fear affect is limited to a Yogo Junzo's Army or Shadowlands Horde Player?

Has this been MRP'd to include all of the shadowlands strongholds or is it just those???

It has been reprinted in Gold Edition to refer to all "Shadowlands players".

Cancelling Rallys

Is there any way to cancel your opponent's Rallying Cry?

In the Gold environment only? Try Suspended Terrain.

Ruling questions

1. you boastful proclimation goes off, you end your turn at 37 honor. when do you gain the honor, does this cause you to win if at your opponents end you are still at 37?

Both the 3 pt honor gain and the check for an Honor Victory happen at the start of the turn. Since the order matters, it's up to the active player to decide, by Cardinal Rule #3. Generally, he'll choose to take the 3 pt gain first. (But he doesn't have to.)

2. honors lesson dojo. after you use it to play the action, I always assumed your opponent could take another action. I was told that your opponent does not get the next action after the ability (besides reactions).

is this true?

Yes. That's exactly what it says. It gives you one action. It doesn't re-start the play-or-pass cycle.

Logistics Problem, Problem

Just wondering if anyone knew whether or not Logistics Problem targeted or not, and if it does, does the player whom played it get to choose?

The player who plays it technically targets the opponent he plays it against. That opponent then targets which unit gets reshuffled, if any.

some targeting questions...

couple of questions that popped up during our sunday mulitplayer....

1. Does pearl magic target?

Pearl Magic reads... Kiho Battle: Bow one of your Naga Shugenja in this battle to make Ranged 2 Attacks targeting all opposing Followers and Personalities without Followers, in this battle. The Ranged Attack Strength cannot be raised.

Well, since it says right there in its own text that it does...

Can I use Toku exp 3.'s ability to cancel it or just cancel what would be hitting Toku's unit or is it not cancelable at all?

If Toku has no Followers, he could cancel the entire action, which would prevent all the ranged attacks. If he has Followers, then his unit, as a whole, is not being targeted, and he cannot react. ("Target a unit" and "target a Personality" are equivalent, but "target a unit" and "target one or more cards in a unit" are not necessarily. I'll see what the Rules Team has to say about this.)

On: Toku

If a unit has a single 1f follower, is the personality hit after the follower dies?

No. These attacks are not sequential.

2. Does Kohuri allow you to cancel things targeting any Toturi's Army card or is just cards titled Toturi?

Kohuri reads... Unaligned Guard*Toturi's Army Samurai Reaction: When a player targets one of your Imperial or Toturi cards with an action, destroy Kohuri to cancel the action.

I would assume its any card that has Toturi in its title OR as a faction, but recently in a multiplayer, someone disagreed with that.

Faction traits are inseparable. A "Toturi's Army" Personality is not necessarily a "Toturi" card, in the same way that a "Dragon Clan" Personality is not necessarily a Dragon.

SCC Kachiko INEXP

Hi-

Can anyone tell me what Kachiko's Reaction is for? It seems like it can cancel a lobbying effort for the imperial favor. Is that right?

It can't cancel a lobbying, but if you use it before your opponent lobbies, you can prevent him from lobbying with one guy in particular. It's also good for combos, like with Test of Honor.

Scout and the Naval Rule [RULES TEAM]

Does the wording of Scout trump the Naval rule as per cardinal rule #1?

No. It is not explicit enough.

Watchtower / Fall on your knees question

Just wanted to clarify. Say I have a province which has a Watchtower attached. I favor a unit home. My opponent play's deadly ground. I react with the watchtower and destroy the deadly. He reacts with fall on your knees to cancel my reaction. Can't I just react to the deadly and destroy it again with the watchtower? and then react again for a one life one action?

Martin Lund answered thoroughly and correctly, but just to back things up officially...

Watchtower's Reaction happens after the terrain is played but NOT before it resolves, due to the absence of the precise wording possessed by the Ancient Halls of the Lion. Therefore Deadly Ground is already in effect when it's used, so no Reactions that cancel or otherwise interfere with Watchtower's action are legal, as they are actions that don't destroy Deadly Ground.

Question on Be Prepared to Dig Two Graves

When a personality dies in a duel during battle, when does he actually die, during the duel or after? I ask because I need to know whether or not Be Prepared to Dig Two Graves can be played against Kakita Rensai or Blade of Truths. Thanks for your help.

He dies during duel resolution, which is part of the duel. But if he's in a current army, he's also dying during a battle, so the question is moot.

Isawa Hochiu exp1 vs. Iaijutsu Art

Does Isawa Hochiu exp1 get to Focus, and then Focus for Iai Art?

A Personality cannot focus more than once during an Iaijutsu Art. If Hochiu uses his Reaction to focus upon entering the duel, he can't focus normally.

Face Me Question

Can you play Face Me as a reaction to your opponent playing Geisha Assassin?

Yes.

Since Face Me states that it targets both duelists, and not necessarily personalities, I would think that you could, but then the question of the PH of a Geisha Assassin comes up.

It's 0, which is bad news for the would-be assassin.
