Rules Question (Jeff)
I need current topics to change so I can go back to ignoring the list. :-)
Anyway, an unrelated question on Foxwife.
When an effect increases or decreases the Personal Honor of a Personality with a Foxwife (such as with Hida Yakamo exp. or Oath of Courage) does the Foxwife reset the PH to 5, or is that 5 changed?
It's changed.
What's the PH when the Foxwife goes away, after the change?
However much it would be without the Foxwife but with all other modifiers.
And, when an Oni with a Foxwife Possesses someone, I assume the new critter has a PH 5, reset from zero, yes?
I'd agree.
cascading fire and bptd2g
When can I react to a Cascading Fire death with Be Prepared to Dig 2 Graves? For example, opponent uses Cascading Fire for 2 ranged 3 attacks. Suppose the CF kills a personality with the first shot. Can I react to that death with Be Prepared right away, or do I have to wait until the other RA is used and then react?
It would need to be done right away if you wanted to react to that destruction.
Organized Play
This is odd though, my subscription form in the Herald lists the price at $20 (US and Canada)... but the web price is $35??? Must be one of those bugs Mr. Lau referred to.
I've checked the web page myself. It gives a US/Canada price of $20, as I saw that same price once before a few weeks ago.
The Anvil of Despair
What (if anything) does it target?
The cost targets the Personality. The effect targets the weapon.
Question on Moto Reijiro
Her ability reads: "Reijiro gains +2F/+2C while at a battle at a player's leftmost or rightmost Province."
Some questions, just to clarify things: 1) Your last province is both your left AND your rightmost province, right?
Right.
2) If Reijiro is at a battle at a player's last province, does she get +2/+2 or nothing? I was arguing that by normal rules of logic she would get nothing, as while she is at the left AND rightmost province, she isn't at a left OR a rightmost one.
Everyone learns different "normal" rules of logic. In my neck of the woods, "or" used in a mathemetics context means "either or both", not "one or the other but not both". And that's what it means on this card.
A couple of duel-related questions
1. If my Isawa Hochiu exp. is challenged to an Iaijutsu Art, and I use his ability to focus upon entering a duel, I must then strike, right? The other player will not be given an opportunity to focus. Is this correct?
Both are correct.
2. This is just to check: Can I use Void Strike and/or Double Chi as a reaction when one of my bowed personalities enter a duel?
No, as they both target your duelist under Gold Edition rules.
Blackened Claws
Will a card like Blackened Claws (Can only be attached to a Shadowlands personality) fall off if the personality it is attached to gets cured of the shadowlands taint?
No. Attachment restrictions aren't continually checked. [DA rulebook p. 25]
Ancestors
Many ancestors say "Counts as XXX for uniqueness." Does that mean that I can't have them both in play at the same time, or will it also limit them in deckbuilding so I can't even have them both in my deck, or does it mean both those effects?
It means both. [DA rulebook p. 26]
Void Dragon Question
Void dragon reads
Reaction Elemental: If a Province is destroyed when the Void Dragon is in the attacking army, the defending player must discard all cards from his or her Fate Hand
ok so here's my question, if my opponent is running Kage Sensei and puts a Kolat token on my Dragon, i attack take his province and go to discard his hand he cancels it, can i take that reaction again or has the trigger been changed, i've read the rule book backwars to forwards and cant figure it out
The trigger is the destruction of the Province while the Void Dragon is in the attacking army. Does anything on the Void Dragon or Kage Sensei say anything about preventing that Province from being destroyed? No. So, the trigger is still there, so everyone is still allowed to use Reactions to it getting destroyed -- including the Void Dragon's reaction, which doesn't count as having been used yet because it was canceled.
Void Dragon Question
yeah i know that you can take an action if it's canceled at certain times but not if the reaction was canceled and the trigger changes im just trying to figure out if that changes the trigger because i dont quite understand this trigger cr*p
A little less obscenity, please. In fact, none at all would be just about right.
Five cards for Gold (was Re: From coaster to worthwhile)
How about:
5) Samurai Cavalry - Why do we get Samurai Infantry, but no Samurai Cavalry?
Ideally, you'd have gotten none. They're both horribly overcosted cards. You got the Warriors because WotC felt both these cards were canonical specimens that typified the flavor of the L5R game world and wouldn't let them both be omitted.
Five cards for Gold (was Re: From coaster to worthwhile)
I'm not talking about Wedge or Shinjo's Breath, I'm talking about those cards which don't quite make the cut in Open, but might in Gold.
My choices, A to E: Court Jester
It already has a substitute: Imperial Scrutiny (AOF).
Destiny Has No Secrets
Nope. It's a blatant speed military card. It's a free +2F with no real downside.
Outmanuvered in court
Alright here's my question, can someone play outmanuvered in court to cancel someone attaching The Imperial Standard since it requires pitching the favor?
Don't you mean Outmaneuvered by Force? No. Attaching the Standard is not a Political action under Gold Edition rules.
questions...always questions
A) Outmaneuvered by Force: Political Reaction: Cancel a Political action taken by a target player with a lower total FORCE than you have in your home.
FORCE refers to force in units (bowed = 0), or cards force (bowed add his force)??
It counts the "total Force" of several units, to you use the total unit Force rules. Being bowed will reduce the sum.
B) May I use Hida Kosho (challenge an attacking pers.) if hi is at home or in other battle (I have another personality in this battle) ?
Yes.
C) May I move Bayushi Paneki (Exp.)/Hitomi Kagetora (Exp.) move himself from another battle to the current??
No, because they both refer to "this battle". They both must be in the current battle to make their abilities legal.
D) I target a 0/2 opposing personality with Uncertainty and then I challenge him. My opponent play a 4 focus card and I strike. What is the chi of the personality for the duel?
2 - 2 + 4, then raised to a minimum of 1 if below 1. His Chi would be 4.
Five cards for Gold (was Re: From coaster to worthwhile)
Yes, let's give Lion ANOTHER boxable 1 or less force personality with no samurai trait to cause them to auto-lose turns 3 or 4. I need more drink-holders.
Lion got a Courtier so they could not complain down the road that they are being deliberately prevented by the Design Team from playing any Courtier-based Political actions by being forced to used non-Lion- Clan Personalities to get the Courtier trait. (We all know the rules prevent you from buying people who don't have the same border color as your Stronghold, right?)
I guess some people will carry LSD scars long after its day has passed. The paranoia is understandable.
Lion is the #3 clan in Europe right now.
Use of "Strike of Flowing Water
If one of my peeps challenges another players peep to a duel and he accepts and focuses, I play strike of flowing water to discard his focus then i strike. Is this the correct use of the card?
Already covered multiple times, but...
No. You can't play a card instead of or as a focus and also call a strike.
For the Empire! question
If the Samurai wins the duel For The Empire, how long does his bonus to Personal Honor last?
D'oh! The bonus is permanent. This is ERRATA.
rules question
About Mirumoto Tsuge, do you draw a card if the duel is refused
Yes. All you need to do is issue the challenge.
Void Dragon Question
Ok, I know this is nit-picking but humour me for my own knowlegde- you can't play Fall on Your Knees to the Void Dragon's ability since it doen't take place during the battle action section, right?
Right.
Corrupt decks, etc.
Would you mind elaborating a bit here as to what the problems were. I've been trying to run some local tournaments, and had considered a multiplayer one. I'd like to hear in advance some of the potential problems - or why I should just drop the idea entirely. Thanks for your help,
Drew,Most multi-player games require teams.People don't always have someone to team up with.If they can't be certain of one then they usually don't bother to play.
What gives you that idea? Prior to the 2-Man Team format that was used in the Isawa's Last Wish tournament in December of last year, no official team rules even existed. And any custom tournament that just happened to require teams could perfectly well assign them randomly as part of the opponent selection process.
I hope you're not suggesting that multiplayer tournaments should be, or are, only entered by groups of participants with pre-formed notions of how their decks are going to work together and already- developed plans as to who they're going to ally with and who they're going to attack. That is the very definition of collusion, and it's a form of cheating.
