post for 7 May 2002

Jeff Alexander, sent 8 May 2002 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Faith In My Clan

Faith In My Clan is read literally. It is playable against any action at any time you have a Clan Champion in an army, regardless of whether the action you're canceling takes place during a battle that army is in.

More weird targetting questions

Also, does Avoid Fate target?

Yes. [DA rulebook p. 45] It targets the Event.

I do not want a Stinky Sanzo, so I won't answer your first question.

rules question

You draw the card before you even find out if the duel is refused. As per his card text, you draw a card immediately after he makes the challenge.

Mm... given those wacky rulings about cancelling actions that have floated around the lists lately - do you draw a card even if the duel gets cancelled (such as with Asako Towers or Flee the Darkness)?

If the action creating the challenge is canceled, there is no challenge. Responses to a challenge can't be made.

clan placings in europe

Jeff recently stated that the Lion Clan was currently 3rd in Europe.

Any chance on of the AEG lads or lasses could give us the placings of the other factions?

All I can say for sure is that Lion and Unicorn are doing drastically better over on that side of the pond than they have been in North America

Dark Oracle of Fire EXP

Hi everybody

I don't know if this has been discussed already but... sorry if it already has

I received today my Imperial Assembly. In it was Dark Oracle of Fire

Text of the card reads:

Dark Oracle of Fire - 5G Retainer - Experienced - Unique - Shadowlands Elemental Reaction: Bow the Dark Oracle of Fire when one of your target personalities enters a duel to force the facing Personality's controller to discard a card of his or her choice every time your personality focuses in this duel. Lose 4 Honor. This loss may not be copied or modified.

Shouldn't it read something like:

Retainer - Experienced - Shadowlands - Unique Elemental Reaction: Bow this card when one of your Personalities enters a duel to have the opposing Personality's player discard a card of their choice each time your Personality plays a focus. [Extracted from l5rsearch.com]

Who's wrong, me, the card, the weather man, bill gates, the universe? (I give away, usually, it's me, but who knows...)

Let me get this straight. You're holding the actual, physical card in your hand, and its text differs from an online spoiler, and you're asking me which is the true text on the card?

If that's really what you're asking...

The card is right.

(To answer the inevitable followup question, no, there aren't two versions of it.)

Do I loss 4 honor each time or not?

Yes. It's part of the action.

Hoshi Tadao Questions

[Elemental Limited: Once per turn, put an Elemental Ring into play from your hand. The Ring does not count towards an Enlightenment Victory. At the beginning of your turn, two turns after this one, shuffle it back into your Fate deck.]

1- If you play the 5th ring with his ability, do you get an enligthment victory? I see it as a possibility since the rulebook says "If you have all five Elemental Rings in play, you IMMEDIATELY win the game." and "The Ring does not count towards an Enlightenment Victory." is a different effect to putting it into play. Unless all effects are supposed to occur at the same time.

The Ring you play does not count. It's that simple. If you're trying to read more into it, you're trying too hard to win.

2- "The Ring does not count towards an Enlightenment Victory". In the rulebook I read "If an effect does not say how long it lasts, it wears off when the current turn ends." Does this effect last until the end of the current turn, so you can win at the beginning of the next turn???

I thought I had already answered this one. That effect lasts only as long as that Ring stays in play. (This is a different ruling than on Finding the Harmony.)

ive gotta prob.

im wondering if anyone can tell me how i can see the clan letters at alderac.com's clan letters section it says that i need a password out of the new herald and im not sure what that means.

The password will be on the address sticker that was on your Imperial Herald when it was mailed to you. If you're not an IAssembly member, you won't have a password.
