Jeff Alexander, sent 14 March 2002 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Citadel of Daigotsu Fear effects

This came up in discussion with my local Courtmembers:

What happens if I target a personality with "Ever-present Fear" or "Way of Death"? Can I bow the personality?

No. You can't bow an Action card as you play it.

I think the intention of the Citadel was "When one of your PERSONALITIES is producing Fear..." but I couldn't find an official ruling in the Archives...

Personalities, Followers, Regions... anything that can be bowed. (By the same token, it doesn't work with, say, a Personality who bows as a cost of the Fear effect itself.)

This rulling makes sense in the storyline and anyway I will do with it. Just one little question, can I overlay Yoritomo Kitao exp if Yoritomo Aramasu is in play without discarding him ?

Here the rules are quite clear: Yes, because overlaying Kitao doesn't count as bringing her into play.

If your Samurai (the one who entered the duel via He's Mine!) has a Torii Tattoo and used its ability to cancel all other reactions, would the He's Mine! be canceled? Or does the Torii Tattoo only cancel reactions that have not happened yet?

It would cancel He's Mine! too, since that was a Reaction played during the duel (by virtue of its wording: it's played when a Personality enters a duel, ergo the duel is underway). All effects of He's Mine! which have not yet resolved don't happen, so the new Personality does not enter the duel and does not bow when the duel ends, but the bowing of the Personality you already have in the duel already happened and does not get undone.

New Dragon Monk - Hoshi Takeji

In all seriousness, on the subject of monks, where are all the other clans monks?

Traditionally, retiring to the monastic life is done at the very tail end of life, and signifies the termination of the samurai's participation in the current events of Rokugan and his Clan. Dragons, as usual, are different. They have much closer ties to the monasteries, as well as an understanding that serving the Empire and doing nothing are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

rules questions

About targeting, some cards like den of spies and kouta have inherent traits that let other players take an action to affect them, use that action is considered to target the card?

No.

Just a quick question

If a Welcome home is revealed using bayushi Tai's ability does it stay in the provence and resolve at the players next events phase or go away in some manner?

AOF rulebook, p. 28:

] An Event resolves when revealed in its player's Events Phase. An ] Event revealed at any other time does not resolve immediately. It ] instead resolves during the player's next Events Phase at the time ] it would have if it were just revealed, provided it is still in the ] Province.

It's National Rulebook Appreciation Month, all March long!
