Out of example, yes. The context I was replying to was that of an attacker moving his own peep into the current battle ^_^. I guess I should have been more clear and say "It would be the same with a card that said "move an attacking personnality from one of the Defender's Provinces to another". The card would always satisfy Presence & Relevance if you used it to move one of your guys into the current battle, but you could not use it on defense". This is correct ?
Sure you could use it on defense! Your example doesn't limit the movement to "one of your own attacking cards".
Question: Fight to the Setting Sun
Fight to the Setting Sun reads:
Reaction: Play this card when a Resolution Segment in which you had units ends. All units in the battle bow as if they were attacking units.
Some questions and different scenarios popped up about this. I have one view while a couple people argued against me with two other points of view but I think it is pretty clear cut. However, we would like an official or at least other peoples opinions. Here are the different scenarios in which it was thought this card could be played.
A) Player 1 attacks province 1. Once province 1 resolves, player A loses the personality that died during resolution and plays this card. This is how I think it works for it states right on the card they need personalities there during Resolution.
Correct.
B) Player 1 attacks province 1. While resolving province 1, player A moves his only unit out of the battle, so he has no one left. We resolve province 1 and player A plays this card. I think this is illegal for he did not have units during the resolution segment at this battle.
Also correct. Player A cannot play the card.
C) Player 1 attacks province 1. Resolving province 2 before province 1, Player A moves his only unit out of the battle. Then we resolve province 1 where player A never has a personality there. Player 1 plays this card. Once again I think this is illegal due to the above reasons.
Correct.
when will the spy grow up
Another possible ninja spy use in gold:
ninja spy + sacred tunnels
Ninja Spy: Open: Bow to look at all the face down cards in one player's Provinces. Lose 1 Honor.
Sacred Tunnels: Reaction: Bow before you reveal a face-down Dynasty card in one of your provinces. If it is a personality, reduce its gold cost by 2, to a minimum of 3. If it is a holding, either discard it or pay 2 gold (your choice). If it is an event, discard it with no effect.
Is looking the same as revealing?
No.
Did I miss the chance to use the Tunnel's reaction when I 'looked' or does this combo work as a sneak preview just to make sure I hit a personality with the tunnels?
It works as a sneak preview only.
Legally moving INTO a resolved battle???
Battle at province A resolves with Attacker killing Defenders personality but not destroying the province. Attacker goes home bowed (No Rally Cry).
Battle at Province B starts. Defender does nothing for 1st action. Attackers 1st action is Luring Tactics moving one of his units and one of the defenders units to another province.
Can the Luring Tactics move into the previously resolved battle at A?
Yes.
If so, what happens?
The two units would stay there and do nothing (other than be eligible for more movement between battles, like Superior Tactics) until the last battle for that attack ends, at which point the Attacker's would go home bowed. [AOF rulebook p. 57]
Question: Fight to the Setting Sun
I think the real question here is, is a personality considered to have been in a battle if they call a different battle and move them in. So were they considered to be at the other provence? The cards first line is: Play this card when a resolution segment in which you "HAD" units ends.
There must have been units in that battle at some point during the Resolution Segment that just ended. (Note that it's very hard to move units around during resolution!)
ABOUT DOJI PLAINS
if it targets a merchant caravan, does it produces 0x2=0 or Nx2? N=focus of the discard
Merchant Caravan "normally would" produce Gold equal to the discard's Focus value, so it produces twice that instead. [card text]
Question about Shinjo Technique
Can anyone give me a better understanding about shinjo technique:
Reaction:Play this card when another player targets one of your Personalities with an Action card. Redirect the action to one of the player's Personalities whom the player could have targeted with the action.
So if Player 1 targets Player 2 with an action card and Player 2 reacts with Shinjo Tech. is the action redirected to one of the Player 1 personalities that it could legaly target or is the action card redirected to another of the Player 2 personalities?
One of Player 1's.
In a nutshell: when someone else plays an Action card on one of your Personalities, Shinjo Technique can make him play it on one of his own instead. It HAS to be one of his (not, say, a different one of yours), and it has to be one he could have played the card on in the first place. If the card targets more than one Personality, you can only change one of the targets from one of your people to one of his.
Can Shinjo Tech. be used in response to an Iaijutsu duel/lesson/art/challenge?
No, because there's no way for him to play any of these cards against two of his own Personalities. There's no legal way to change just the part of these cards that's targeting your person to target one of his while leaving the rest alone and still end up with a legal way to play that card.
"Soul of XXX" question ( sorry no pics.... ;-p )
About "Soul of XXXs, appart from the rare promo ( I need to collect those ones... ;-) ) some personalities changed family name, do they count as having their old family name or the "Soul of XXX" name? For example Fukurokujin Seido.
If you are playing in a Strict Gold format game, you use the older XXX Personality as a proxy for the "Soul of XXX" Personality in EVERY WAY, including changes to family name and miscellaneous traits. (You are, in effect, treating the "Soul of XXX" card as a Most Recent Printing of the older "XXX" card.)
If you are playing Open, play all cards as written.
Question
I know this came up before and I apologize for being redundant, but does "this battle" and "current battle" have the same meaning?
From the forthcoming rulebook:
] An action which refers to "this battle" always refers to the battle ] currently being resolved. In addition, if the card it appears on is ] of a type which can be in battles (such as a Personality), the card ] must be in the current battle for the action to be legal.
So, "this battle" ALWAYS means "the current battle". In addition, it ALSO means "the battle this card is in" when such a phrase makes sense for the type of card it's on.
Ryokan's Sword Question
If a personality has multiple copies of Ryokan's Sword attached, can that personality focus as many times as he/she has swords attached as one single focus?
It doesn't matter how many card effects you stack together that all say "you can do A instead of B". As soon as you choose to do B, you're no longer doing A, so you can't take advantage of any of the other bountiful opportunities to do B instead. So, no, you don't get to place extra focusses.
Two questions
Can I play Mushin with a Sneak Attack?
ie: Sneak - Mushin - Frenzy - deadly ground
Yes.
Two questions
Here's one:
I attack, sneak, mushin, and play deadly ground. but i have no action i could legally play after that.
what happens?
a) i must pass and opponent gets a chance to do something b) the battle is truly over c) judge gets a migraine d) the game implodes
a)
Casacading Fire....
Can you Co-ordinating Fire 2 Casacading Fire Spell?
Not if either of them are producing their consecutive attacks, no. The card itself says those attacks can't be combined. Only if both shugenja are casting the single strength 6 attack can Coordinated Fire be played.
Rules Question- Reactions
A quick question on reactions during battle: -Iaijutsu Duel played by Personalities that doesn't allow reactions in a duel (Reinsei or Aroru) can be canceled by Know the enemy, Asako towers ability or similar efect?
Yes.
rules question
ok, heres another one...
player A is a lion, with one Akodo Tadenori, and one Matsu Nimuro in play, while his own Peasant Revolt shows up.
Nimuro bows, and Tadenori doesn't.
but now player A decides to use his lonely Tadenori to destroy anothers player province, using a strenght of purity and tactician trait to improve his force....
now the question:
at the end of the battle, Tadenori bows during the resultion segment, asume player A has a ralling cry in his hand:
[...] AND THE ANSWER IS... d) he can use it. rallying cry PREVENTS tadenori from bowing in the first place.
Correct.
Hoshi Wayan exp2
Hoshi Wayan exp2 has been a personality of much debate in our playing circle given the potential for grossly abusing his ability. Does his ability to raise force bonuses that he receives to be increased by his personal honor included permanent bonus such the Stand As Stone card that gives a Tattooed pip a permanent +2 Force Bonus to make it +4 on Wayan. And what about Dragon Tattoo, does it give him 3: +3/+1 tokens? When Kirin shrine enters play, is that seen as a force bonus? Or are we completely off in our thinking?
Wayan only increases the bonus until the end of the turn. Then the bonus reverts to its original amount.
Yasuki/ Daidoji Hachi?
Hello all, I had a quick question about a crane personality. I just started playing again in gold and I am not sure what the rules are on the new and old stuff so I will just ask to see if its been addressed. Daidoji Hachi from the spirit wars has the gold legal mark but he is Yasuki Hachi in gold, all of his traits and costs are the same the name is the only change...and I was wondering...seeing it has the gold legal mark am I able to use the Daidoji version in gold legal as Daidoji not Yasuki?
Yes.
Yasuki Hachi is NOT a reprinting of Daidoji Hachi and is NOT the "Soul of Daidoji Hachi". They are two separate cards and both get played exactly as written in all tournament formats.
rules question
Ok How about this.
Player A has peasant revolt and it goes off. Player B Has Matsu Nimuro curently bowed. Since Nimuro is not affected by Peasant Revolt due to the fact that he is already bowed, can he unbow on Player B's next turn?
No.
Peasant Revolt has two effects. It bows all Personalities and Followers who are above a certain Force right when it goes off, and for a certain amount of time it prevents all Personalities and Followers who are over a certain Force WHEN THEY TRY TO STRAIGHTEN from straightening -- irrespective of whether they were that large or even in play when Peasant Revolt appeared.
"Soul of XXX" question ( sorry no pics.... ;-p )
He's talking about in the gold format. If you play with a Gunjin, he counts in every way, shape, and form as Tadenori, so even Gunjin would get the benefit of family tactics calling Akodo.
This whole thread is the reason that so many people complained when AEG said that you could use the originals as proxies of the "Soul of" cards in gold play. Could we please discuss again removing this rule, since Gold has been around long enough that everyone should have everything that they need, or be able to get it easily enough.
Sure, you're allowed to discuss it. Get ready to receive a ton of email from the other side of the issue. Fan feedback is one of the bigger reasons we made this rule in the first place -- it seems very few players liked being forced to buy new printings of cards they already owned in order to play in tournaments.
"Soul of XXX" question ( sorry no pics.... ;-p )
Behalf Of Kaiten Akodo
Sorry to say but you're both wrong. Let's take Akodo Tadenori and Ikoma Junjin. Say you wanted 3 of Tadenori in your deck but only had 2 so you threw in a Gunjin. If you played family tactics "Akodo", Tadenori would get it but not Gunjin, if you played family tactics "Ikoma", Gunjin would get it, not the Tadenori's
That is true in Open. If you're playing Strict Gold, all three of those get played by Akodo Tadenori's wording from Gold Edition, right down to the smallest detail.
