Honor rules questions
1) If I have a Personality that is Dishonored, and then that Personality attaches the Ancestral Sword, are they rehonored?
Yes.
2) Similar example, if a Monk or Shugenja uses The Wind's Truth to steal some honor, and that Monk or Shugenja is Dishonored, is there an honor gain, or is that Monk or Shugenja rehonored?
The Monk or Shugenja is not rehonored. Modifying an honor gain will not restore a Personality to honor. [AOF rulebook page 60]
3) If the answer to either of the above questions is "They are rehonored.", then I think I remember the rulebook saying that there is no actual Honor gain from such an occurence. Would that mean that The Wind's Truth cannot be used in this a case like this? Or would it be legal for the other player to steal the honor and leave the Dishonored Personality that was involved in the Honor gain Dishonored?
There would be no gain to steal.

1- Sorry, my question about was Trenches and the Ring of Water ( in other term, do I still count as having destroyed the army to play the Ring of Water )
No.
I have another questions too:
2- Say I play an Ambush ( thus declaring an attack phase ) or Jaws of victory (another attack phase) and still, in my Limited phase play AFTER doing this the Limited on Akodo Ginawa ( for memory, Limited: Once per turn, draw a card. You cannot declare an attack this turn).
What's your question? Is it legal to use Akodo Ginawa's action after declaring attacks earlier in the Action Phase? Yes.
3- Still on the attack phase, you already stated that ShosuroYsuko doesn't stop for assigning for Ambush, but can she still act for Jaws of Victory?
Yes.
Is Miya Yemi's action political? [Rules Guys]
Hi,
Just wanted to double check this...is her Limited Action political?
Yes.
The rulebook states:
"For cards printed prior to the Gold Edition set, an action that changes a Family Honor loss or gain in any way, including canceling, preventing, or redirecting it, or which requires discarding the Favor as part of its cost, is Political".
She was printed with the Gold Kanji in Spirit Wars, so I wanted to make sure that qualified for "prior to the Gold Edition set". It sounds like it does to me...
Spirit Wars is pre-Gold Edition, yes.
Politics and shadowlands
Can I afect Shadowlands with political action and reactions?
Yes you can.
For example if I have Toture Tsudao and Imperial Favor can I use her political battle reaction to send shadowland army home?
Not the whole army.

Yes. By MRP, Overconfidence can be played after any Force bonus, not just one which is the direct result of an action.
Is this another Reversal Jeff, here is the info from the Archive
Attaching an Item or Follower that gives "+X" to a stat is not an action giving a force bonus. The force bonus comes directly from the attached card, not the action.
It's not a reversal of that ruling at all. Overconfidence's text changed in Gold and, as a result, that ruling no longer applies to it.
Shiba Aikune rules question
Shiba Aikune Phoenix Clan Samurai . Experienced . Unique Battle: Once per battle, gain a Force bonus equal to the number of other Samurai in this army, or the number of Shugenja in this army, whichever is less.
If I read it like this I'd say he wouldn't get any force bonus if there arent any samurai or shugenja in the battle. But there was a discussion about this once and I remember it vaguely and now i'm in doubt. If he was in a battle with only other samurai would he get a force bonus? (that is higher than 0)
He would get a Force bonus of 0, since that's the number of shugenja in his army (which, in this example, is going to be less than the number of other samurai in his army).
A couple o' questions
Question the first:
My opponent attacks me, say with two units. I defend with *trumpets sound* Isawa Tomo/Riake at the attacked province and anyone else at another province. Resolving the battle containing his units first, I use Tomo's ability to move his bigger unit into the battle containing my other unit and BAM! </Emeril> Slaughter the Scout. This is:
A. ILLEGAL because, as my opponent thinks, Slaughter the Scout is only playable in the current battle, or
B. LEGAL because, as I argue, Slaughter the Scout is a Reaction, and as such, has to be played immediately upon the fulfillment of its trigger (Should read, "Slaughter the Scout 0G 2FV Reaction: Bow one of your Personalities after a target unit moves into the Personality's battle to destroy the moving unit." [Erratum, JA, 12 December 2001]), and StS gets to ignore Rules of Relevance and Presence anyhoo.
B.
Question B
Same situation as The First, except this time, my opponent resolves the battle w/ my lone unit and his none first. Now, when I move his unit into the resolved battle, can I play StS, which triggers off someone entering the BATTLE?
Yes.
silly rules question...
This came up in a tourney today...
A Test of Courage CAN be used to cancel the effects of Encircled Terrain, right?
As of the Gold Edition wording, right.
And, If the test itself isn't cancelled (ie by Fall on Your Knees) it will cancel the entire resolution of Encircled Terrain, right?
Right. That's what it says.
silly rules question...Not that silly
Encircled Terrain occurs at the end of the battle action segment right before the resolution segment because it is a delayed terrain. It also does not send home an individual card but targets an entire army for send home.
The only things it targets are the Attacker, Defender, and the two units selected to stay. Sending all other units home is a non- targeted effect. But this is irrelevant to A Test of Courage.
After reading all of this, I think you are correct that the newly written Test of Courage could cancel the encircled terrain if the encircled terrain is an action that moves personalities out of battle.
...which it pretty clearly is.
Reactions: When one of your personalities has been targeted by an action that would remove them from this battle, play this card to cancel the action. You may not bow this Personality to produce actions or target this personality with actions for the remainder of the turn.
Under the old rules the terrain did not target a personality it targeted an army.
Um...no. Under the old rules it targeted the two units selected to stay, period. It did not target the Attacker and Defender as well. It has never targeted an entire army.
Now the question is, does the person opposite of the person who played test of courage allowed to play more actions. The battle action segment has likely ended because both players have said PASS. Now if both players say pass, can a person play an action? How does the sentance "The battle action segment continues until all players pass consecutively." effect this?
Reactions don't count as far as the one-player-at-a-time "take one action or pass" mechanic goes. [AOF rulebook p. 48]
silly rules question...Not that silly
Have to first find out is all other units is a blanket effect (non targeting or not) if it's a blanket effect then there is no question the test can't cancel. Is it's not a blanket effect but targets all other units which I think is the case then it would just cancel the terrain but it would be all. so no units are sent home finish the battle. Count force and you are done.
The reason why I think it targets is because it doesn't say all units or all Phat units or anything like that. (Rules book if says everyone of something then does not target.) this says everyone but this guy. So it targets at least the one personality does it target the rest?? This definitely needs a ruling.
It makes absolutely no difference whether or not the units being sent home are targeted by the send-home action. A Test of Courage can be played either way.
Know the enemy
Question on playing cards... This is the situation.
Player 1 plays Deadly ground. Player 2 plays superior tactics. Can player 1 React with Know the enemy to cancel superior tactics? I believe not since deadly ground prevents him from playing any actions during that battle unless they are to destroy deadly ground ! This I believe should include reactions. Am I correct?
You are correct. Know the Enemy cannot be played in this instance.

I've a question: are coutiers, poets and diplomats interchangeable?
Courtiers and Diplomats are interchangable. [AOF rulebook pp. 3, 34, 70, 71] Poets are a different matter.
Multiple Reactions
Are the following two scenarios legal plays?
1) Suspicions is in play. Three Doji Nagori are in play. Nagori has a Political Reaction which reads: "When another player gains or loses Honor, bow Nagori to increase the gain or loss by 1. Gain 1 Honor." Question: Can all three Nagoris react to the Suspicions event with the cumulative effect that the opponent loses 4 Honor and I gain a net of 2 Honor (after losing 1 for the event and gaining 1 for each of the three Nagoris)?
Yes.
2) Three Kiyomis are in play. Kiyomi has a Political Reaction which reads: "Bow Kiyomi after any player successfully lobbies for the Favor to gain 1 Honor." Question: Can all three Kiyomis react to the same successful lobbying attempt and produce a total gain of 3 Honor?
Yes.
two questions
1) If I play Uncertainty in a 2/3 personality (making him 0/1 can't drop his chi below 1) and then cast Energy transference, The personality is killed?
He would change from a 0/1 to a 1/0 -- or he'd at least try. His Chi would be immediately reset to 1 due to Uncertainty's other effect.
2) May I react with Overconfidence to a Shosuro Technique? This is considered a bonus? May I use In search of the Future to reduce it to 0?
Setting a stat directly to another, higher number is considered giving it a bonus. Overconfidence may be played if the increase is large enough, and In Search of the Future will reduce the bonus to 0.
"Your army" question
When a card refers to "your army" (e.g. Prepared for the Enemy, Stand Against the Waves) does it mean "the entire attacking or defending army (allies included) of which you are part," or does it mean "just your units in the army of which you are part?"
The former. [AOF rulebook p. 70]
Monk alignment
If a personality swears fealty to the monk/brotherhood of shinsei, can he cast kiho's?
They gain the "Monk" trait, so, yes.
Multiple Reactions
I have a 3 chi shugenja and a The Wind's Truth, Suspicions resolve, Nagori#1 reacts, Nagori#2 reacts....could I react to the 3 honor loss or my time is passed?...could Nagori#3 then reactto make me lose 1 honor?
Since both The Wind's Truth and Doji Nagori are used "when" another player gains Honor, it's possible to wait for two Nagoris to happen before casting Wind's Truth. If you've moved the loss away from yourself, Nagori #3 can't increase your loss by 1.
silly rules question...Not that silly
The ruling is that Encircled Terrain targets the one unit not being sent home, and the targeting is done by the player that controls the personality. The only thing that Test does with this terrain is that it prevents you from selecting that personality when it comes time to choose for the Encircled.
Nope, if ToC can look forward to see whether or not a unit will decline, I don't see any problem with it blowing up Encircled.
AToC *doesn't* look forward.
(Joe and Pete both have two units) Joe: I play Encircled. Pete: I pass. Joe: I pass. Pete: I chose my first unit for Encircled's effects. Joe: I chose my first unit for Encircled effects and then target my second unit with ToC as the trigger occurs. Encircled goes bye-bye.
That is correct.
