Shiro Ide Question
couldnt you bow a hawks and falcons to produce 0 gold?
No. There's nothing on the card itself that lets you do that and there is no general rule that all Holdings can bow to produce gold.
Hataki exp question
The traits on Kitsune Gohei match those given to the Follower created by the Walking Horror scroll. It's rather difficult to maintain one's connection to the kami when you're a card-carrying member of the lurching dead.
Jeff A.
Hm. Then I wonder why he doesn't have the "Undead" trait... ;)
Yeah, I know, I know. But the original Black Scroll didn't create an Undead Follower, so...
On to my actual question:
In light of the clarification that Daidoji Rekai exp2 can use her ranged attack even if she's already in the battle, owing to the fact that she can "move into" a battle she is already present at...
It's not that a card can move to where it already is. It's that this effect of her action does not violate the "you can't take a targeted action when you can't pick a target" rule (which DOES prohibit her from moving into a battle with no one opposing her). Thus her action stays legal to perform. The movement effect of it does nothing but the ranged attack still works because of the rule that all effects of an action are independent and happen as completely as possible.
If so, then how many times?
Any number of times.
But it seems slightly ridiculous that one Hataki exp against an army of Yogo Scorpions would simply be able to "straighten and move into" the battle with each action.
And yet, he can.

Which reminds me, Jeff, how does it feel to be an Ancestor?
I didn't even know I was sick.
Now that Jeff's back...
...and we have an officialish person to answer these questions:
Watch whom you call official-ISH. I'm offi-CIAL, and don't you forget it!
1.) Will there be an errataed version of non-XP Yoritomo Kitao in the Mantis starter for Dark Allies, IE, one with the Naval trait printed?
If she is reprinted, we will strive, as with any reprint, to incorporate all existing errata and clarifying rulings into the card text.
2.) I understand that the ideal should now be that in every expansion, Clan X gets the same number of personalities as Clan Y (except for the Ratlings, who get far less). Are the Mantis only going to get five (or however many the standard number will be) new Personalities in Dark Allies, or are we going to get a couple more to help us catch up? (Let me emphatically state that I do NOT want said extra slots to come at the cost of taking slots away from other factions - IE, the Mantis get ten slots and everybody else gets four instead of the usual five.)
No major Faction will receive fewer than the so-far usual number of Personalities in the next expansion.
3.) Related to question two: new Souls, namely for the Mantis. Yes or no? They could be kept strictly within the Mantis starter so they don't have to take up slots in the booster packs.
I'd prefer not to say. The set is not near final development.
4.) Are there plans to make Island Wharf Gold-legal, or are we doing without a "clan holding"?
Again, I'd prefer not to say. We are aware, however, of how poorly a Faction fares when it has no fundamental Gold-producing Holding.
Tsuno Takuna
could someone tell me which is the difference between the two variant of this AOF card? I can't locate it!
There is actually only one version of this card. Early reports that where are two were incorrect.

These are Reactions, so they cannot be simultaneous. The answer depends on which gets played second, which depends on when and whether the players use them. They both have the same trigger (entering the duel), so the player to the left of the active player gets the first option of reacting or not reacting. Things go clockwise from there.
Wait, was Shiba Tsukune MRP'ed AGAIN? I thought her +3C bonus was a trait, not a reaction...?
As far as I've found, it's always been a Reaction. It's definitely a Reaction in Gold Edition, which is all that matters. Perhaps you're thinking of Otaku Kamoko's +1F on attack?
tsukunes ascension affects everyone
tsukune ascends: affects all personalities including in provenses and dynasty deck and discard?
Only those you have in play at the time it resolves, for reasons already well-covered by other posters.

Jeff's last statement about Bayushi Paneki: "AND his battle must be the current one." comes into conflict with this.
Is this going to be a reversal, or just a misunderstanding?
The exact definition of "this battle" is something I already had on the back burner to discuss with the Rules Team. Time to move it to the front, I guess.
tsukunes ascension affects everyone
Encountered a persitent reoccurance of existing misinformation, specifically, the idea that an effect specifying "all of your personalities" will affect not only all personalities you currently control, but all potential personalities in your Dynasty deck. Suggest that this idea stems from the existing rulings regarding personal honor and honor gained for personalities on Bayushi Yojiro exp2 and Ki-Rin's Shrine exp (q.v.).
Don't discount the influence of At'tok'tuk Sensei, et. al. Their incorrect usage of the term "your" and the subsequent rulings that supported intent rather than wording also confound the issue.
Accessible Terrain in Multiplayer games
Player 1 (me): Shadowlands (The Spawning Ground) Player 2 :Crab Player 3:Crane
I recently played a multi- game and the following occured:
During my turn, I initiated an attack vs. the Crane provinces. My Stronghold, not containing any caveats for allying or asking to ally, allows me to ask the Crab for help in pulverizing the Crane.
Province 1: My entire army + Crab allying support gets sent home w/o bowing (Bridged Pass). Province 2: I play Accessible terrain (after the defender passes).
Q: Does the allying attacker gain the ability printed on Accessible Terrain?
No. He is an "attacking player" and an "attacking ally", but you and ONLY you are the "Attacker". "Attacker" and "Defender" are rigid terms. Normally, there is exactly one of each.
Coupla quick rules questions
A coupla of questions game up the other night that I though I would get solid answers on:
1. Hummingbird Tattoo. This card seems to act as a type of Rallying Cry (not exactly the same, but close enuf) can a personality with a Hummingbird tattoo be sent on multiple counter attacks?
If he uses the Hummingbird Tattoo to straighten, he cannot move into battles the rest of the turn. Assigning to a battle is not movement, though, so he could still do that.
2. The Isawa Tomo clone out of gold (whoes name escapes me cause she's not right in front of me at the moment) allows you as a battle action to move a unit from one of the defenders provinces to another. Can she do this while not assigned to a battle? To opposing units?
Yes and yes, but make sure you satisfy both Presence and Relevance every time you use her.
Hoshi's Claw Q
If a personality enters a duel while Hoshi's Claw is attached to them, would they be able to use the Hoshi's Claw reaction if their opponent in the duel focuses?
Yes.
The rulebook calls Focusing a "hidden bonus" and that's what Hoshi's Claw is looking for, but what about if somebody focuses a card with a Focus of zero?
The Claw is still usable. The Personality received a +0 bonus.
FAQ?
My question is: Is an ancestor card considered to be a follower card?
No. Not since Gold Edition. This is in the rulebook.
Season of the Crane question
Greetings!
I just recieved the Season of the Crane kit and I'm looking forward to running the strategic event. However, are all the storyline effects based on running a tournament *separate* from the strategic event?
No. Strategic and one-on-one are both valid formats for storyline results. Do either. (DON'T do both and send in the one you like better. That's not legit.)
It seems that way as I don't know how to determine a winning player from a given team (and having one team win would mean that you'd get the top four players all being of the same clan).
If you do Strategic and you have more than one player per Clan, record the stats of ALL members of the winning team in the #1 spot, all members of the second team in the #2 spot, and so on. You'll probably need to write this on a separate sheet of paper.
Secondly, for the strategic event, is there a recommended way of dividing the teams equally?
Q: You've got four potatoes and six guests. How do you serve them? A: Mashed.
Seriously, if it makes the numbers work out better you can play with fewer than eight Factions on the big map. Start at the outermost edges as you eliminate and work your way in. Unplayed clans are completely removed from the map; their Provinces become Impassable.
If there's still an anomaly, it is acceptable for only some teams to have Daimyo, or, if every team has a Daimyo, for only some teams to have Karo.
We're not running it at a con and we're not sure what decks people will be bringing. I don't see a problem with just dividing people up into teams no matter which deck they're playing, and just giving them a "faction" on the board that they're playing for, but I wanted to solicit advice on this one.
If you don't have an even spread of decks to run a Strategic event, pick a more traditional format. Strategic really should be played with decks matching whatever Clans each player represents on the map.
Hoshi's Claw Q
You speak sooth, but remember that an honor gain of zero is not always an honor gain in this game, and you'll see why I hesitated.
Um...close.
o An honor gain of 0 will not restore a dishonored Personality to honor. o An honor gain of 0 cannot be treated as an honor loss of 0. o An honor gain (or loss) which cannot be prevented also cannot be reduced to 0.
But there is no rule that a 0-point gain is sometimes treated as not a gain at all.
