post for 9 January 2002
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
On behalf of all of AEG, I want to welcome all of you back and hope that your 2002 has started out, and stays, a good one.
I want to personally thank Vaughn and Zen for covering the list in my absence. Good job, fellows. I don't know what we'd do without you.
Right! Back to work now. Let's see what we've got on the agenda...
Another Time - New Question.
When Another Time is revealed as a focus, does it's effects happen immediately or can I change it to a 0 focus with Judgement of Toshiken?
Immediately. Judgement of Toshiken is not an option.
Question: Reactions During Deadly Ground
If your oppenent is playing Superior Tactics or Divisionary Tactics to destroy your Deadly Ground, can you use Know the Enemy to cancel the destroying Battle Action?
No, because Deadly Ground is still in effect and Know the Enemy is an action that doesn't meet Deadly Ground's play restriction.
Kosaten Shiro question
The point I'm trying to get across is that I have noticed two ways in the L5R that a card with differing costs can get printed. One is the 'this card cost x less gold for y clan', the other is 'this card costs x gold for y clan'.
The implication in the first one is a reduction in cost, in the second that the cost is different, but not reduced. Hence the query.
The second case has also been ruled to be a reduction, since it's changing one number to a different, smaller number.
Gold Legal Cards (Question)
Are the following card gold legal?
Evil Feeds Upon Itself Matsu Goemon Shiba Tsukune
All the cards were released in the Spirit Wars starters with gold bugs, however they are not listing in the gold legal cardlist on the Alderac website.
How long ago did you look? I just went to http://l5r.alderac.com/gold_checklist.html and found Goemon and Tsukune listed (but not Evil Feeds, which has had the Gold Edition bug removed by errata).
Question: Reactions During Deadly Ground
Martin Lund escribió:
Now, when Deadly Ground is in effect, its ability says: "Players can take no actions for this battle except ones that destroy this Terrain." (ref: www.l5rsearch.com).
So the Reaction from the Lion Stronghold, wich "voids" a terrain, cannot be played, since it doesn't destroy the terrain, and Deadly Ground is an inmediate terrains.
The Lion Stronghold's Reaction is used "When a player plays a Terrain and before it resolves". Deadly Ground is not in effect yet, so this action is not prohibited.
