A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

No matter what becomes of that ruling, though, it will still be impossible, just like it's always been impossible, to commit seppuku to reduce the loss caused by the samurai's own dishonorable death.
Finally =)
Ok then, so you are saying that a Samurai CANNOT commit seppuku to peasant defense?
Wait a minute. Peasant Defense? That's an easy answer: no. Not now, not under pre-Gold rules. Peasant Defense does not cause an honor loss. Samurai cannot use their built-in capacity to seppuku against merely becoming dishonored. (I had been confusing the card with Plea of the Peasants from way back in Shadowlands, which does cause a loss.)
Though, I still feel, under the current rules and what has been said here, that it's possible for a samurai to do such, that is commit seppuku when about to die dishonorable during the resolution of a battle(other than the fact of you saying, you can't do that, which is both a bad and good reason).
When "about to die"? If he hasn't died yet there is no loss to react to. If there is a loss he's already dead.
What you seem to be doing is taking the fact that the honor loss from Ambush isn't the very first thing to happen, and yet seppuku must be immediate, and extrapolating that into a rationale for allowing seppuku at any time you know an honor loss will occur in the near future. The two cases are not analogous. Being in an army at the start of resolution and then dying at the end are not two effects of the same action/card/what-have-you.
Stand against the waves
I have a couple of questions:
1. Does Stand against the waves target ( It didn't pre-gold) ?
It now targets the player it's played against, which will always be either the Attacker or the Defender. It didn't under the old rules.
SAtW always targeted the units which that player selected to bow.
2. When can you use Isawa Riake?, or more importantly, when can't you use her?
You can't use her if her action fails to satisfy either the Rule of Presence or the Rule of Relevance. If you either have a unit there already or are moving one of your own in, AND the action comes from, targets, or affects something in the current battle, she's legal.
If you have no units in the current battle at all, you can only use her to move one of your own units into it from a different one.
If you have one or more units in the current battle, but not Riake herself, you can move any unit between the current battle and a different battle.
If Riake herself is in the battle, you can use her to move any unit between any two battles.
Master of five
21 questions: 1) If a spell is attached to a master of earth/water/etc and it I bow the shugenja to cast the spell, does it count as a earth/water/etc action?
No. Only the traits of the card the action is printed on count.
2) When you cast Fire & Air, does it count for both Fire & air for the m05 victory?
Yes.
Questions
For Kyuden Hida do you only get to draw the extra card if the SH was unbowed when you attached the follower?
You can only use the Reaction if the Stronghold is unbowed when you attach the Follower. Once used, the Stronghold does not need to be unbowed during your End Phase to draw the card.
Campsite (was: RE: [L5RINFO] Clan Hosing)
Something has been bugging me about this card since before GenCon and I finally got what it was. Here is the gold edition wording:
Campsite Region Reaction: Immediately after a unit is committed to attack this Province or moves to attack this Province, draw a Fate card. You can use this ability once per unit per turn.
Now, this is from the archives: Battle Maneuvers Segment -All units assigned by a player during a Maneuvers Segment enter the battle simultaneously. [DW,e-mail, 4/8/99] -"Assign" and "commit" are synonyms and refer to unit placements made during a Maneuver Segment, or by Reactions that take place during or immediately after one. Cards that enter a battle via Battle or Open actions are never "assigning" or "committing," regardless of whether one of those terms is used on the card. [DW, e-mail, 4/8/99]
Ok, this is what has been bugging me. Since all units are committed to attack at the same time, in one simultaneous action, does this fall under the "can only react once to a given trigger" with the same reaction? Just wondering.
"Simultaneous" does not imply "inseparable". Each unit's assignment is a different trigger.
