A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Exp., and Storyline?(originally Hitomi Exp. 4, Shiba Aikune)
I agree mostly with the dragon clan's argument, led by Yellow-san, about Tamori. He's long over due for an Exp. Level.
Okay.
Reactions during battle
(the reversal on Relevance was sorely needed, but why also do it on Presence? to minimize confusion?)
The whole point of changing the rules in the first place was to make them less complex, a.k.a. easier to remember. Since the change had mechanical problems, the best fix now is to go back to exactly what experienced players are used to, since THAT will be easiest to remember.
2 Street to Street Questions
1) Since the Battle Action Segment ends before the resolution segment, the followers will still add their force to the battle (as long as they attach to somebody) right?
If they can re-attach, they'll add. Right.
2) Can you attach a follower to a bowed personality?
No.
I know you can't target a bowed peep with an action, but I can't find anything that says attaching counts as a targeted action.
Attaching is called a targeted action in the Gold changes summary and in the Sequence of Play in Detail section. The reattaching here is the result of an action too (just like choosing a unit to stay is a result of the Encircled Terrain action), so the targeting rule applies.
Rules question: Iuchi Shahai + Ki-Rin's Shrine
If I have Ki-Rin's Shrine in play and I use Shahai's battle ability twice, what happens?
1.- Shahai dies, as the action comes from herself so the Shrine doesn't save her from death. 2.- Shahai survives, as the penalty doesn't come from the action but from the token, and the token is not a card, so the Shrine keeps her alive.
#2.
Questions about Kaneka and Call to Arms....
Hows does Akodo Kaneka Wind work with Regions? My guess is badly. ;-) Basically, if you replace the face up card with a Region does it immediately come into play, or does it just sit there and wait until your next Events Phase to come into play?
Regions enter play at the end of your Events Phase. That's it, barring specific card text to the contrary (like Regions of Rokugan). Regions turned face-up during your turn, by Kaneka or anything else, sit there face-up. You are free to discard them during your Dynasty Phase or to leave them there for them to enter play on your next turn.
Second, when exactly is Call to Arms played?
"during the Declaration Segment of an attack in which you are the Defender." [Gold Edition card text]
My friends keep telling me about the great 'surprise' power of a Call to Arms. However, if I read it correctly it is played in the Decleration Step, which is when someone says... "I am declaring an attack against you" but before the commit any units.
Correct.
After you unbow they can just choose to not attack, not every really putting thier troops in danger. Any I misreading the card?
No. You straighten before any units assign. There is no huge surprise power.
Finding & Master of five question
Does puttiong a ring into play with Finding the Harmony count as a valid action for master of five?. For example, switching the ring of air for a ring of earth with finding the Harmony counts as an earth action?
No, for two reasons:
1) Actions acquire only the traits of the one card, if any, they're written on. Casting Finding the Harmony only uses the traits of Finding the Harmony.
2) Master of Five, by ruling, requires an earth, air, fire, water, and void action, and Rings are not actions.
Counter - Rally Clarification needed please
The way I understand how these cards work togehter / against eachother is as follows, can someone please correct any mistakes/confusions for me?
Player 1 (active) declares an attack vs. Player 2.
Player 1 sends enough force to take the province.
Player 2 does not defend.
Player 1 munches the province.
Player 2 gets to react to the end of the battle 1st and he plays Counterattack. (starting another attack phase)
Potential problem right there: Counterattack can only be played after the LAST battle in an Attack Phase. If the Province that just got crunched was not the last Province to have its battle resolved (and it usually isn't when there are no defenders anywhere), the Attacker can easily play Rallying Cry "first" because there is no Counterattack for it to conflict with.
Player 1 can only play reacts to the Counterattack at this point, he has none so he passes.
Player 2 munches a province (ends his attack phase)
Player 2 passes (after battle reacts)
Player 1 passes (after battle reacts)
(we return to the end of Player 1's original attack phase)
Player 1 plays Rallying Cry.
Player 2 passes.
Player 1 passes.
Attack phase ends, go on to dynasty phase for Player 1.
I know this has been gone over and over, but my group is introducing the game to a few new people, and we 'old players' are in a disagreement as to how the carsd react with easchother.
Your example is a valid description of the way these cards interact under Gold Edition rules IF the Province with the rallying army gets resolved last.
post for 4 October 2001
Akasha and the Hunting Tiger become legal when APC does, which is October 4th (hey, that's TODAY!). None of the others have been formally released yet, so it's hard to say. Any released before An Oni's Fury will become legal when it does.
Is this a reversal, Jeff? I have an e-mail stating that Akasha becomes legal >with An Oni's Fury. (Of course, considering the tournament I play in tommorow, >I'm probably the only one who had a chance to play in a Season before, so I'm >not playing her, but it does make a difference.)
Ray Lau tells me the official release date of A Perfect Cut was September 4th, and I have it from Dave Lapore that Season of the Unicorn kits began delivery in late August. That means Akasha was formally released before A Perfect Cut was. She should be legal when it is.
Rulebook clarification: Wind cards
They are, in fact, cards. Among other things, this means that anything that interacts with card effects, such as preventing or canceling them, will work on Wind actions, whereas they did not work on the Imperial Favor prior to Gold. Future editions of the rulebook
Does this mean they count towards Master of Five? :)
1) "Wind" in this case is a defined card type, not a trait. Therefore the Keyword Rule does not apply.
2) The rulebook explicitly excludes Winds from the Keyword Rule anyway.
3) You already knew the answer, didn't you? That's it. I'm taking the Mujina Clan Stronghold out of Oni's Fury now. I hope you've learned something here today.
