post for 4 October 2001
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
YP v KS
As a side note... Jon raised some valid points about the power of YP for Crane... the 5Gold for items, Fantastic Gardens, etc... it also makes me wonder if there is bias amongst the playtesters/designers/whomever that would build a box for "two factions" and yet it appears because of FG that it favors Crane over Crab.
Actually, there was a bit of worry that the Crane players would be annoyed at being offered a chump prize that was measurably inferior to something they already have (Kosaten Shiro), whereas Crab could actually use it to make different and potentially better decks.
Rules Question about the Ring of Water
Looking for an official ruling here:
Is it permissible to use the reaction of the Drum of Water in a battle that results in a tie or is the Drum destroyed before it has a chance to react?
This appears to fall under the "active player decides" timing conflict resolution rule.
Promo Legality
I'm fairly new to the list (but no the game) so if this question has been asked and answered, sorry, but I kind of need this info for a Tournament on the 20th. My question is : When are the following promo's legal for tournament play? 1) The four Ronin 2) APC Box Toppers 3) Akasha 4) A Perfect Cut #16 5) Dark Oracle of Earth Exp.
Akasha and the Hunting Tiger become legal when APC does, which is October 4th (hey, that's TODAY!). None of the others have been formally released yet, so it's hard to say. Any released before An Oni's Fury will become legal when it does.
Ruling?? Imperial Favour/Acquiring Favour
Can my opponent bow a personality to lobby for the Favour, discard it for Hantei Naseru's ability(naming Dynasty Phase), and then play Acquiring Favour to use Naseru again(naming Limited Phase) in the same turn??
Yes.
a few questions
I've just started playing the game and I have a few questions.
1-I have a red backed token card in my deck. What is that for?
It's a token. Use it whenever you have a use for that sort of token during a game. You can't actually put it in your decks, since it's neither a Dynasty nor a Fate card.
2-During the battle phase when a defender assigns units to protect a province, do those units actually move to the embattled province or do they defend conceptually from their original locations?
Units assigned to defend a Province are at that Province and not in your home. I don't want to say they "move" to the Provinces because assigning and moving are two distinct game terms.
