post for 28 September 2001
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
APC rules question again
So, you only get to target one personality once?
Correct.
Shouldn't that be 'as many personalities as you want, but only once each'?
In the context of the entire thread, correct. I was answering one particular point in the middle of the thread.
Rules question: Togashi Mitsu / my real post for 26 September 2001
Historically, it's been part of his action. Why?
I thought that overlaying Mitsu Exp could keep the +1/+1 fire tokens ability on Togashi Mitsu, so Mitsu Exp could gain 5 +1/+1 tokens with the less exp.version and then straighten normally 'cos the exp. versions don't have the "can not straighten while having fire tokens" restriction.
I can't do that, can I?
No. If the non-Experienced Mitsu is in the stack, any fire token from any source prevents him from straightening (as well as causes him to bow after battle even when defending). That's the way it's always been ruled.
MRP Taka Sensei?
I suggest MRP Taka Sensei.
That would mean reprinting it, which we can't reasonably do without making it Gold-legal.
Gold when paying for a Personality.
when paying for a Personality. (remove the confusing word 'only').
That "confusing" "only" makes the card less ambiguous, as it overrides other modifiers rather than creating timing conflicts.
Rules Question (reduction/additional costs dinasty/non dinasty)
I have seen that now there is a rule that specifies that unless stated otherwise outside from Dinasty phase, there is no honor gain for bringin personalities into play and no honor requirements, additionally, cards like Prize of war and Firebird falls only affect personalities coming into play during the dinasty phase
Price of War applies only during the Dynasty Phase by its Most Recent Printing. Firebird Falls isn't worded that way -- it increases costs at all times.
if thats true, what happens with cards like shiryo no yogo, the longest night and similar... if i want to put into play ninjas from Bayushi provinces as an open action and get the cost reduction, must i pay full cost or can i put them into play for free (if cost reduction lowers their cost to 0)
I'm not sure what you're asking. If its cost is reduced to 0, then 0 IS its full cost.
