Rules for 31 July 2001
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Greetings,
You people on the darkedge l5rinfo list probably won't recognise these questions, since they're from the Wizards l5rinfo list. Hopefully there's enough context that the answeres will still make sense...
question
Can you play Fall on Your Knees to cancel a Poisoned Weapon during an I.Duel?
Sure.
Rules for July 30th
didnt jeff at one time say that attachment is a two way street?
It is.
If he did, then wouldnt that meant the personality the sword is attached to (and attached to the sword) would still give the sword a +1/+1 bonus making the total bonus of the sword +1/+2.
Nope. The Personality is not giving the sword a bonus -- that would read something like, "A Weapon attached to the Personality gains +1F."
Hitomi Nakuso
With Gold's new targetting rules, does Hitomi Nakuso's destroying action target himself ?
No, via rule 2: "An effect that applies only to its own card does not target."
Question re: The Jade Throne
Does the Jade Throne help in lobbying now?
No. You must have the highest honor to legally initiate the lobbying effort, and the Jade Throne only increases honor while lobbying.
Rules Question: Utter Defeat
May a Shadowlands player play Utter Defeat over a non-shadowlands/non-ninja oponent's personality?
Hm. This is one of those old rulings that never made it into the Archive. The current ruling is yes, because Utter Defeat did not cause an Honor loss *when played*. It causes it during an opponent's Dynasty Phase.
Now, that ruling may be out of date. The Horse used to be prevented from playing actions that caused unconditional *and IMMEDIATE* honor losses. With the Gold MRP, I'm not sure that the immediacy test still matters. Jeff Alexander will have to have a say after GenCon.
Rules for July 30th
Severed from the Emperor will *not* protect your cards from the Underhand.
All right, if the Underhand isn't a use of the Imperial Favor... why is it a Political action?
The crux of the matter is that Severed from the Emperor negates the *EFFECTS* of the Favor. It does not prevent the Favor from being used to pay a cost.
Discarding the Favor as a cost for an action makes the action Political, but it does not make all of that action's effects to be considered a use of the Imperial Favor, as it is for Imperial Edicts or Ikoma Tsanuri (Experienced), for example. I don't think anyone has explicitly noticed or stated that slight divergence before.
Rules for 30 July 2001, Part 2
I was under the impression that all of the Ronin, not just Chiang-Tsu, were released as part of the Welcome Home packages sent to people.
They were. But *before this systematic release*, they were given out on a *very* limited basis. As other have noted, the current "Welcome Home" is not more than 30 days before GenCon.
Togashi Mitsu - Counterattack - Rallying Cry
What happens if Togashi Mitu with at least 1 Fire token is one of the attackers at the final battle of a battle phase, at which the defender plays Counterattack, and the attacker plays Rallying Cry?
The Archive entry for Mitsu is current, and correct. His bowing is prevented.

Thanks Zen. Hopefully I'll see you at Gencon, and we can go over this further. :-)
Sorry, guy, not this year. :(
Rules for 30 July 2001, Part 2
Man, I am SO sorry to hear that, Zen.
Thanks. It wouldn't be so bad if the trip to GenCon wasn't part and parcel of a move to a new job. :(
