Rules for 14 July 2001
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Greetings,
Duration effects - ruling needed
What happens if the expiration turn for a duration effect does not exist, because the player involved has been eliminated?
Rules Archive, General Rules, Death and destruction: "Tokens and effects caused by eliminated players persist for their normal duration, including those that will wear off during some future turn of that player. Just pretend it's that player's turn for a brief moment. [DW, 3/3/97]"
Rallies, Counters, Reaction timings.
BTW, not sure if this has occured to anyone or if it is right....but if i attack and blah blah blah, and in the last battle i play Entrapping terrain, my opponent cannot Counter Attack[.]
No. Players have always been able to Counterattack after Entrapping Terrain. I'm not about to alter that.
Rules Question
The scout causes Deadly Terrain to be played. If this is a battle action, then Kachiko can cancel it and the Scorpions are saved.
If the action begins with the word "Battle" (which all terrains do), Kachiko can cancel it.
New player's question.
Does this action [Kyuden Hitomi], since the stronghold says, 'instead of drawing a card, _add_ a card from under...', work with Hitomi Vedai?
If you can't get a card from your Fate deck, you can't get one from under the Kyuden Hitomi stronghold, if that's what you're asking.
Rules Questions (Iru and Infections)
If Kusatte Iru uses his Reaction as a Province is destroyed, destroying a Province, is it destroying a Province in battle? Thus, does it satisify the requirement of The Fallen Lion Fortress for giving a Shadowlands player an additional Province?
Rules Archive, General Rules, Battle: "Reactions that require destroying an army or Province can be played if the destruction was caused by a card effect during the resolution segment. [JA, 14 February 2001]"
But Iru's Reaction occurs *after* the Resolution segment. No.
When one destroys Plague-infested Personalities in order to satisfy Rampant Plague's conditions for immunity, this makes one unable to be "targeted with plague tokens." Can Sympathetic Energies transfer a Plague token to a Personality controlled by an "immune" player?
Er. No.
Can Plague-Infested Region give Plague tokens to a Personality controlled by an "immune" player?
Yes, but "'X' effects that strike them without targeting do not affect them." (On-line Gold rulebook.)
Rules Questions (Targeting and Reactions)
Poison Weapon and Feign Death now target,
Wrong. The Gold Edition text for Poisoned Weapon *specifically says* it does not target. (I didn't to add this to the Gold MRP list because the card still works like it always did. It should go in, though, seeing how Gold makes actions target by default.)
as Feign Death targets (this assumes the answer to (1) is yes), you can't use it on a bowed, dying Personality. Correct?
Wrong. Card text: "Play immediately after a *BOWED* or unbowed Personality you control is destroyed..."
Rules Question (Finding and Re-play)
It is quite possible for a Ring to get Finding'd in, get removed from play, then for that Ring to be played legitimately, however. In that case, does the Ring count for victory?
No. Which reminds me, the "doesn't count" effect *is* permanent, not end of turn. Just before anyone asks.
Rules Question
I guess it is what you define an action card from your hand as being. Would somebody official please define an "Action card" in this scenario.
A Fate card of the action catergory. You know, the red coloured ones. :)
