Rules for 13 July 2001

Zen Faulkes, sent 14 July 2001 to the l5r-useful list, L5RINFO

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Greetings,

First, more Gold MRP information.

* The Shadowlands Horde: No longer has any restriction on using the Alliance event (confirmed by Jeff Alexander), since the stronghold has now been reprinted without adding the old erratum.

* Imperial Funeral: No longer has an "escape clause" for already bowed Personalities.

* Pearl Divers: Are now a Retainer.

More old business: The Rules Junta is having a little discussion about what to do with Ancestors retrieved with Revering the Past. My ruling of yesterday may reverse. Watch this space.

Oni no Jimen no Oni

Oni no Jimen/Jimen no Oni was at one time going to be included in Gold. Anybody know if he ended up making it in?

Haven't heard any indication it's in the set.

I don't see him on Zen's list, but I remember the count for Uncommons and Rares being 99 of each. Perhaps he's the 100th card?

Funny you should mention that. Some folks have helped me track a couple of things today. My information indicated that Strike at the Tail was uncommon, and Strength of Purity was common. But these cards apparently had their rarity tweaked at the last second. Strike at the Tail is rare, and Strength of Purity is uncommon.

This puts the card count, if I remember right, at 100 rares, 100 uncommons, 199 commons, and 43 fixed cards.

MRPs and rulings

I also found at least one erroneous ruling, which I removed: Asako Hosigeru can't use his Ranged Attack if there's no opposing army (since targeted actions must have a legal target to use them).

I am certain I remember Jeff ruling that this was legal.

Yeah -- that's why I told people that I took it out. You can't perform a targeted action if there is no legal target. This was explicitly stated with regard to Daidoji Rekai (Exp. 2)'s ability (i.e., some time after the Hosigeru ruling). It's since been incorporated into the Gold rulebook. For whatever reason, nobody caught that it the Hosigeru ruling was obsolete.

Gold Bugged Spirits

Can someone point me to a list of Cards in Spirit Wars that have the Gold Bug?
